I've always loved short stories. They provide a brief escape from the busyness of life and offer a glimpse into another world. Lori's devotionals leave me feeling I've walked in her shoes or could walk in them at some point and help give me direction for how to handle similar scenarios. The devotionals Lori has included in her book provide just the right dose, not too short, not too long, of a way to jump-start my day or squeeze in a quick time of Biblical truth threaded through common issues facing Christian women today. She does this in a very down to earth, relatable way.
Lori's insightful observations of everyday situations often strike a chord with me. Her contemplative biblical analyses are thought-provoking and help me gather my good intentions into helpful, loving actions. She helps me separate the wheat from the chaff of my day and the questions she poses are universal and helpful for new believers as well as those well-seasoned in their faith. This is a book I want to gift to others so they can be blessed as I have been blessed.
The devotions truly do take only five minutes to read -- perfect for busy schedules. You don't have to read through them in order. I couldn't help but jump around, intrigued by the titles like "Eating Pocket Lint" and "Hopeless in the Chocolate Factory."
Some of the devotions are humorous, some are touching, but all are meaty.
Lori's relatable voice is that of an encouraging, welcoming, friend, but a friend who is also able to speak the hard truths to us. These devotions are to one's faith what power bars are to keeping your diet and nutrition goals on track. Hungry for God, Starving for Time belongs in every busy woman's purse, car, stroller, bedside table, or kitchen counter.
In a world that crunches time around us with more and more things to be done and less time to spend with God, this book gives us a springboard for thought. I found myself laughing, weeping, and being encouraged. I'm tucking my copy into my purse for re-reading when I have a waiting time. Thank you, Lori, for this beautiful work of encouragement and challenge.
In today's world, it is near impossible to find time for a meaningful, yet concise daily devotion. And if we can find time, it needs to speak to us and seriously impact our life. Lori Hatcher has truly captured this concept and has written a book to fill the need. I am buying copies for the many women I try to keep up with in the circles I travel professionally and as an elected official with too many demands being made on our lives.
Note: I definitely hope I am one of the people he is referencing in this review to receive a copy!
Now that her children are grown, she shares her wisdom and insights with other busy moms. She understands they often feel Hungry for God but starved for time to meet with Him.
This book is designed to meet the needs of these women with short but powerful devotions that are practical and well-written.
