If you decide you want an English Setter for a pet, hunting partner or show dog after reading The Hunt of Her Life, I suggest contacting the rescue division of the English Setter Association of America or the breeders who play a role in this book. Please consider adopting a rescue Setter. Groups that place homeless dogs include Above & Beyond English Setter Rescue, Another Chance for English Setters, Our English Setter Rescue and Southwest English Setter Rescue in United States and SettUsFree in the United Kingdom. English Setters are versatile pets who make wonderful companions, but please remember that they require at least two hours of vigorous exercise a day.

Dog lovers, but English Setter lovers in particular will love this book. It was especially relavent to me since I have rescued English Setters and I also have a dog out of a Grouse Ridge sire. Anyone who is a dog lover will appreciate and love this story.
Having English Setters myself, the book grabbed by attention and held it until I had it read.an amazing story about a courageous dog and dedicated owner, and the special bond between the two. The search for Sam's bloodline was a great piece of investigative work. Really enjoyed it,would recommend it !
If you love dogs, especially English Setters, you will really enjoy this book! Very well written. I'm reading them again since I was sorry the books ended. You will laugh and you will cry. And if you owned an English Setter like I did, it will bring back lots of memories. Do yourself a favor, buy both of these books. You will love them!!

Working Gundogs are a large part of my life and have been for 35 years. I am committed to proper and responsible ownership and I have read widely on all aspects related to dogs. This was somewhat disappointing as both a view of one persons ownership and relationship - it just didn't hit the spot on either aspect. If he had actually worked the dog to the gun it may have brought a more interesting facet to the story, but the whole thing was, I feel, written for self gratification - but if that helps the guy to heal, so be it. But if he wants to enter heaven, he should get some good non-catholic teaching that it is only Jesus Christ who saves and heals, dead popes have no say!
