Reading this book The Hunt for Khun Sa, has filled in a lot of blanks for me. One thing is for sure: the CIA is the global leader in drug trafficking and they don't like competition - at least uncontrolled competition. The book was exciting and well researched. I know there is additional information out there that is not included here, but considering the general lack of public information on Operation Tiger Trap, this book is well worth having in your library if you are even the least bit interested in the subject.
The attached photo is of me in Chiang Rai, Thailand shortly after my arrival in 1994.
For a more realistic and saner understanding of Khun Sa and drug trafficking in Burma and Thailand, read one of Bertil Lintner's excellent books on the subject.
Initiated by DEA Agent Nick Caruso, this title tells about the takedown of Khun Sa and his worldwide network of heroin dealers. And, this title will show the reader that the extent of this drug dealing is more than what the ordinary reader thinks. This is a must read for afficionados of this type of reading.
When a Mafia cheiftan plays a part in a title of this kind, the action is there. The suspense is there and the relevance is there. From Burma to other worldwide locations, this book deals from the beginning of the journey to the end....and the arms of the unfortunate!
