Mr MacRae takes that theme in this book: people are kidnapped during a Cancer gala and taken to a place in the Rocky Mountains, to be hunted down.
Of course the bad guys make a mistake. They include Rory-Mack Steele, private investigator and ex Canadian black ops, who certainly knows how to defend himself.
The book is fast paced, with many very graphic fights, nasty bad guys and two likable main characters, Roy and Missy. This is the first book of the series, but not the first I read. So I already knew part of Rory's back-story and abilities.
Cons: the bad guys are a bit cardboard and there are no hints about who they are.
All in all, it is a great fun read. Recommended.
Warning: Hold your breath, grit your teeth, and get ready for the most terrifying literary experience of your life.
I have no doubt that this extremely dark mystery thriller will soon be made into a movie. This expertly crafted contemporary novel will keep you on the edge of your seat until you are finished. Two complete strangers, Private Investigator Rory Mack Steel and Missy Amos, a feisty and beautiful young woman, wake up in separate rooms inside an enormous, windowless cabin that is somewhere in the middle of the wilderness. They quickly discover why they, along with many other men and women dressed in expensive evening gowns and formal attire, are being held captive by a large group of brutal-looking men, wearing green and brown camouflage clothing and armed with powerful hunting bows and huge bowie knives. Missy and Rory are still struggling to recover from being heavily drugged by their captors when they are informed that in a few moments time they will be taken outside and must run for their lives. None of the completely bewildered and terrified captives will be given access to water, food, or weapons, yet all of them will soon have to try to evade and defend themselves against their completely merciless pursuers. Even though they really don't know each other, Missy and Rory immediately realize that they must use their combined ingenuity and inner strength to have any chance of surviving in the hostile wilderness against completely impossible odds.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this amazing new novel by Canadian author, Eugene Lloyd MacRae, which without any need for exaggeration is absolutely full-to-the-brim with completely believable characters, real suspense, formidable opponents, and non-stop action.
I highly recommend it.
This is an Amazon.com verified purchase by Daniel Sinclair Pearson
The author, Eugene Lloyd MacRae, does a nice job with this story (including an undercurrent of romantic comedy even!) and I'm looking forward to reading more books in the series.
The book seemed to be a combination of Deliverance, Shoot and Open Season (the original, not the animated version) in a good way, with some logical escape and evasion thinking by our heroes
I would definitely buy it if you are into the manhunt genre, and I will try another Rory Mack to see how I go.
Nice work Eugene!
