This is a multi leveled look at family, history and life. On its face, this is the story of fear and hope of raising a child in a crazy world but it's far more than that as it wants you to look at how myth is interwoven and shaped by time to hide truths. As the Hunter awakens from his slumber to do the one thing he was created for, we get to look into the past and see the world from different perspectives and challenge what we know and why we've believed what we have for so long.
The pace of the book is exceptionally fast and left me wanting more with each page I turned. I found myself asking questions and hoping I was right and loved that some assumptions were totally wrong and I'm looking forward to this series as it unfolds.
Most of The events closed naturally, they didn't just happen or have you screaming at the characters, telling "WHY!?!?" There were just enough twist and turns with outcomes you didnt expect.
What lost a star for me was Chris going from this confident, strong creature, to a little b*tch towards the end. And tben there was Melisa, who's not bad cold feelings had you skipping her inner dialogue, so you didn't start hating her. Yeah, yeah, she was prego, but the whole moody thing got old real quick. On The other hand, when she wasn't in one her overly dramatic moods, she help the pieces to the puzzle together.
While this book didn't have me up all night trying to finish it, the story was good, there were p!Henry of times I was caught off guard by events - that alone will have me reaching for the 2nd book. Aaaaand, I kinda have to know where the Hunger and Vampire made off too. 😁
I am an avid reader and I'm always looking for a new author/series. Can't wait to see the next book in the series!
