This is a very intense story. I could not put it down. We had a brief snippet of what would happen in the prequel but to see it play out is another story. You are taken to this world where fairies aren't the nice beautiful people we usually imagine. Instead they have a dark side like the rest of us due to the Unseelie nature of the Fairy King. At this time Arwan's children have been suffering for a millenia because they were tricked by Dar, the Fairy King, and ended up taking his curse.

We are in the present day where Harley has lived a very strict and sheltered life. She doesn't understand why she has to stay inside and cannot go in to town like the rest of her family. One night she sneaks out but is caught by her Mom when she returns home. This night has changed her life forever. Her entire family is slaughtered and when she runs she meets a "ghost", Calan. He helps save her and she promises to return to him. Nine years pass before she can make good on her promise. All this time she has lived in fear that the darkness inside of her will take over. She comes back home per her brother's request to attend his wedding. Once she comes back home she sees the ghost again. This "ghost" is one of Arawan's sons. He must get Harley to free him in order to send Dar back to Hell.

I fell in love this this complicated world that Nancy has created. I am looking forward to her next book in the series.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Although I have read several series that are based on Fae legends, Corrigan managed to give Hunter Deceived some twists that I haven’t encountered before. Because of this, I found myself further engrossed in the book because while there are certain Fae rules that are a constant from author to author – they are based on legends, after all – it was the differences between the Seelie and Unseelie that the author made her own that kept me glued to my Kindle as I raced to the end in a desperate need to find out what fate would befall Harley and whether or not she and Calan would find their way to one another. A word of warning – tissues were needed.

The book begins by giving the reader a look into Harley and Calan’s first meeting – the night that Harley’s family is murdered, the night she learns of her true heritage, and the night her struggle to resist the taint of her Unseelie blood intensified. We then jump ahead nine years to learn that while Harley has resisted the lure of the Unseelie, her journey to do so has been hard fought as she has spent the intervening years being stalked by Raul, a redcap, who has murdered several of those people she had gotten close to during her frequent moves. But the wedding of Harley’s only surviving brother brings her back to the family home and, in doing so, gives her the unexpected opportunity to reunite with her “ghost man” – Calan – who she had convinced herself was a figment of her imagination. The chemistry between Calan and Harley was immediately palpable. Their passion was so intense that my Kindle wasn’t the only thing that nearly overheated.

Independent reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock, I was gifted a copy of this book, via Netgalley, for review.

Harley fights the darkness that threatens her everyday. It finds her and she runs again. But when she is forced to return to the scene of her family's brutal murder, Harley discovers her saviour, the one thing that kept her going, is very real. Calan is real.

The Wild Hunt have been imprisoned for a millennia, after Calan led them into a trap. He needs Harley to release him, so he can release his brothers and sisters. Harley is also his mate.

But it seems that everyone is a pawn in a much bigger game than anyone realises, and Harley and Calan face the ultimate sacrifice.

This book takes place more than a millennia after Hunter Sacrificed. I would recommend you read that first. its not necessary, but for me, I think its probably best you do.

Calan is one of Arawn's Teulu, The Wild Hunt, the leader of the Hunt. He spent all that time chained up, taking the pain of his siblings so they don't give into the madness that is creeping in on them. He saved Harley at the time of her family's murder by projecting to her, and leading her away. When she returns home, he does that same again, and she comes to him.

Harley is half Seelie, a child of Dar, Lord of the UnSeelie. As she gets older, she has to fight the taint of her father, the darkness that creeps around her heart. Calan calms her, and protects from it, as she calms him.

Dar is still trying to unleash his Chaos, and looks to be getting closer to his goal, so Calan needs all his brothers and sisters along side him on the Hunt.

Different, but good different. You get to hear from both Calan and Harley.

4 Stars – 3 Flames

Are you serious right now? I finished? No…this can’t be happening! MORE!!! I. WANT. MORE!!!!! Please, please tell me I won’t have to wait too long to continue this awesome PNR.

Harley has been tormented by eyes of a “ghostly man” for 9 years, 9 years! She had made him a promise to live and return to him, but she didn’t really understand what those words meant as she was trying to escape the killer of her family. But true to her word, she lived, all while watching those who became somewhat close to her were killed by the same killer she’s grown to despise.

Calan is the son of the Lord of the Underworld, a.k.a., “the devil” (you should really read the .5 of this series to understand this part a little better). While serving out his curse in his own little prison, he’s able to reach out (in a ghostly being), saving Harley the fateful night of her family’s murder. It is then Calan knew he had to make Harley his mate. But was it too soon?

This has everything a PNR should have. A different world (underworld), the human world, deceit, greed and amazing scenes that will have you turning the pages so quickly, before you know it, you’ll end up like me asking, “wait, it’s over?” The only thing that I’m bummed about is that I have to wait for the next one to continue. Great start to a series…I’m already hooked!

*I was given a copy of this book as a gift from The JeepDiva in exchange for an honest review.
