Read the whole series, it'll make this book more understandable. I would have liked to have read books 3, 5, 9, 11 and 12, but they were written by different authors and Amazon don't seem to have any reference to them. Book 6 is written by Montgomery and was also very good at filling in some background information, but I felt like there were bits missing from the books I was able to find, which were probably covered by the other books written by other authors. I wish there was a reference list somewhere, on one of the Drummond books, so I could work out how to find the books written by other authors and thus be able to read the whole series.
By the way, Book 14 is just 3 books in one, of earlier books, so don't bother getting that one, if you've already read the others.
I appreciate that the author focused on the story line rather than making this just another erotica novel which seems today to be the case when the heroes are furry and alien. It was the wonderful love story that kept me reading thru the joys and sorrows of the main characters and their supporting characters especially the youngest one.
I have read the previews for several of the other titles (mostly novellas) in this series but their stories either did not engage me or the price was too high for so few pages. Be advised this was a full length novel.
Be prepared to shed a few tears as there are surprising twists and turns to the final HEA. Just wish there had been an epilogue as it seemed to end too quickly.
