A demigod’s work is never done . . .
All monster hunter Samantha Silverton wants is a little R&R. She and her sexy partner/cat shifter Max have a week off in the city that never sleeps, and she intends to enjoy it. But before she can pack her suitcase, she’s caught up in the middle of a wicked game—a smartphone app driven scavenger hunt that’s bringing all the big, bad supernaturals to NYC to play. The bad part? The game was the brainchild of Alex Van Dam—Sam’s first love. What’s worse? Sam will have to play the game alone.
Maximillion Ra hasn’t quite got a handle on his unique shifter magic yet. He’s in love with Sam, but if he’s ever going to be any good to her, he has to face his family’s curse. But how can he leave Sam now, especially with her old flame in the picture?
Alex Van Dam isn’t interested in who wins his game. He just wants to find the final prize—an ancient Greek relic. Once he has it, he’ll use the artifact’s magic to control all the supernaturals in Manhattan, starting with the Hunters’ Watch Brigade.
Only Sam stands in his way. And without Max by her side, even the monster hunting daughter of Poseidon has to wonder if she stands a chance . . .

Review
"Hunters' Watch Brigade: The Game is the second book in the Hunters' Watch Brigade series, and we reunite with Sam, Max, Shade, Cyn, Helmina, Miss Daisy, Tex, and the rest of the crew. I loved her going to Olympus, and speaking with Artemis. I thought that was perfectly written, just how I would imagine the Greek Gods playing! With great characters and excellent world building, I found the pacing to be well timed, with the transition from one scene to the next smooth. I have no hesitation in recommending either this book, or the series so far. Can't wait to read more." - Merissa on GoodReads

Sam is a tough agent who is determined to nail the wizard behind a cellphone game that puts the Supernatural community at risk. She goes toe to toe with the wizard and witches behind it. This time she doesn’t have her boyfriend at her back. Max is on a special mission of his own.
I loved how both Sam and Max grow in this story. I enjoyed the way they overcome their obstacles.
Lots of surprises and add in a sexy vampire and you have a fabulous read.
Max is her Main Coon familiar with a toolbox of skills. Since his shift from familiar to guardian, Max and Sam’s relationship has switched from one of witch and familiar to one of heat and romance. Off to get a week’s work of rest and recreation, Sam and Max are disrupted, however, when evil bombards the city in the manor of a scavenger hunt app.
The app brings a lot of monsters into town, including Alex, Sam’s ex. His desire? To find an ancient Greek relic that will afford him control over all the witches. In order to keep the city safe, the vacation is cancelled as Sam hunts Alex and the all-to-powerful relic alone, after Max is sent to deal with is family’s curse before it’s too late.
Danger abounds as tries to get ahead of Alex and retrieve the relic herself. Having it get into Alex’s hands will put the entire world in danger, not just the witches he will be able to control. It’s a good thing Sam has a shifter protector, a vampire, and Poseidon in her back pocket. She’s going to need them.
The author is very creative with the contents in The Game. The characters are interesting and well-developed. There is continued world building and I was able to visualize the story. The magical trident Sam carries with her at all times is wicked awesome. The story is fast-paced, flows well, and kept me engaged. The Game is an excellent book.
I was provided a copy of this book to read.
Turns out that a blast from Sam’s past was ramping up a scavenger hunting game that was set to wreak havoc on the non-magical and magical alike. This was not a good time for this type of situation to be occurring, one because Sam really wanted this vacation and two, because Max was having shifting issues. In order to deal with those shifting issues he was going to need to set out on a vision quest, which meant that he would have to leave and that was not something that he would even consider. Sam’s safety meant everything to him, but if he was honest with himself he would admit that his inability to deal with his shifting magic was making his ability to protect her more harmful then helpful and that was a hard pill to swallow.
Also back in this story was Sam’s boss’s nemesis and he is still just as determined to kill Shade by any means necessary. Shade’s nemesis is a sociopath and in this story he meets someone who is just as nuts as he is, which does not bode well for Shade or the Hunters’ Watch Brigade. His involvement and Alex’s determination to use humanity at large to unearth a prized relic is creating chaos of the worst kind and bringing both the witches and the wizards of New York City into a turf war of epic proportions. All Sam and Max wanted was to enjoy each other’s company for a couple of weeks, not to have to be battling with bad guys who are determined to destroy everything that they hold dear, but when you are humanity’s last line of defense and duty calls what can you do?!
I had a wonderful time reading this action packed urban fantasy that also included both Egyptian and Greek deities, dangerous monsters, and even some ooh la la paranormal romance! Though a large focus on this story is about Sam and Max, they are actually separated and dealing with their own issues for most of the time, which I liked because it gave more depth to the characters themselves. It definitely made Sam and Max likable as individual characters and not a mash up where you only saw them only as a couple. I also loved that this story was told from multiple points of view, the most common was Sam or Max, but I also read from the bad guy’s point of view and I always like to understand all the characters motivations, so that was nice. There was so much to love in Hunters’ Watch Brigade: The Game, it was an exciting read from start to finish and the action was non-stop! There are villains, some crazy, nearly impossible, situations, and through it all Sam and Max developing as a couple. If you are a fan of urban fantasy I highly recommend both the book and the series to you!
