This book starts out like a black and white film noir set in a Dashiell Hammett 1930 detective novel and in the background, you can hear, in your mind, Dragnet (1951) Jack Webb · Sgt. Joe Friday describing the words of the story.
"Mrs. Stockton," I said, formally. "Please, Detective Almond," she replied. "Call me Emily." "Emily. Call me Anders. Andy, if you prefer. Can I get you coffee? Water?" Emily Stockton alleges she and her husband Charly were kidnapped under the most bizarre circumstances. What she describes isn't the half of the story.

Emily and her husband start by going out to dinner in downtown and getting lost, stumbled upon Bookstores with very strange vibes. Of course, if it felt wrong, why didn't they leave? Then we would not have the extraordinary story that follows. Emily and Charly go behind a curtain open a secret door and descend into a subterranean world where “We have entered The Twilight Zone between the fading old normal and a new normal that is not there yet.” Or perhaps horror anthology of The Outer Limits (1963).
With an Improbable story, Zero evidence, No path back to the bookstore…. No other police division would take Emily seriously.
Detective Andy Almond loves a puzzle and is ready to go poking around on his own, so his wife, Rachel, is ready to go on this macabre outing.
Using the police database to check on detours scheduled for the night Emily went out, starting at The Palms restaurant Andy narrowed the search down to six square city blocks.
When Andy submitted what he found to his boss, he surprised Andy by squashing the investigation. He said Andy had too little to go on, the story was too far-fetched, and he'd waste taxpayer money. Since Andy believed Mrs. Stockton, he would continue on his own time. His boss agreed, as long as he used no department resources. Then Andy and Rachel ventured out as expected in any horror film. This is not a story for the faint of heart, but by the time you meet Kali and finish this story, you will be waiting to the next installment.

Now, almost every way that I can address this story, is spoiler territory. I can mention how good the whole story is and the tension that it develops around very likable characters. I will be frank and tell you that this is a cop/mystery/horror/erotic with the main sexy theme being Hotwife/Cuckold variety. And if you already like/love ML, then you are excited about this book!

Detective Anders Almond catches all the harder-to-solve and mysterious police cases. Having been assigned a new one where a pretty blond comes forward with a case that fits that perfect “Friday the 13th the series” style of story filled with sketchy books for sale. Anders and his wife Rachel have experience working together investigating other cases, take a few trips to try and find this mysterious shop where Emily and her husband Charly had found such dark items and even a possible monstrous creature.

Go out looking for darkness, there is a chance you might find it! We had a saying in my youth that “Nothing good happens after midnight.” For our MCs, MANY HORRIBLE THINGS happen to them. Dark and vicious creatures inhibit this book and some people are not having a future beyond the pages we enjoyed. There are things that you might like or even love if you like the things I did growing up.
Specifically movies with some twisted erotic scenes like:
Evil Dead, the Howling
Anime like:
Wicked City, Urotsukidoji, La Blue Girl, and an all-time favorite, Ninja Scroll!

Take a deep dive into darkness!
