This software is top-of-the-line for video poker training and practice software. The publisher worked with Action Gaming to provide the same appearance and sounds that you will find in the real casino, so practicing with this software is just like the real thing. Video Poker for Winners includes most of the popular video poker varieties you will find in your local casino, including single-line "Game King" games, multi-line games (3-line, 5-line, 10-line, 50-line & 100-line!), SpinPoker, Super Times Pay, and Multistrike. For each of these variations, you can use the software to learn perfect strategy for the games, or just play for fun. The software can generate custom strategy charts for any paytable that you input, and you can print the strategies in a nice color-coded format to use in the casino. Other features: Simulations allow you to test bankroll sizes for risk of ruin, practice only difficult decisions in any game, and evaluate comp and cashback programs. This is simply the best available product for practicing and improving your video poker game.

Off the bat, a little disappointed you get a CD from Amazon. I was hoping it was a download and then you get a code to activate so I could start playing right away, but it's not. You have to wait for the CD to arrive. I mean, I knew it wasn't a download...says CD right in the System Requirements section. Just pointing out that you'll have to wait for the CD to arrive.
It will teach you strategy. I knew the simple strategy for Jacks or Better but the strategy in the software is more advanced (which is a good thing). That's the only game I'm working on right now as the strategy tends to be pretty straight forward. I like how you can have the software tell you when you make a mistake and can tell you the correct play or you can choose to try again.
What I didn't like was trying to found out why selecting certain cards were OK to hold sometimes and not others. Specifically, when you have three straight flush cards. I couldn't figure out why sometimes I'm supposed to hold them and other times throw them away. Finally, after searching all over the software, I found the strategy chart. Unfortunately, it was way too confusing for me to read. It could have been created in a much simpler way. And it has been. I went to another website and looked at their chart. Almost the same exact chart but a LOT easier to read. After looking at the other website's chart, now I know when to hold the 3-card straight flush and when to ditch them. It shouldn't have been that hard. Maybe I made it harder than it was but that was my experience. With the software and the chart from the other website, now I get it and understand what I'm doing and why.
It keeps track of your errors, your percentage of times you're correct, coins in/out, etc. During a hand, you can bring up the chart of your current hand to see the EV of each option. For example, if you think holding certain cards is better than what the software is telling you, bring up the chart and look at the numbers. You can play just easy hands, intermediate hands, hard hands, or a mix. You can also test your skills with the test mode (start out with beginning hands, get them all right, move up, etc.).
There are lots of games to choose from and usually a couple different pay tables with each game since there are different pay tables at different casinos. It's pretty important to practice with the correct pay table as that affects the EV value of hands. If your local casino uses a pay table that isn't included, you can make your own. I think there are websites that will tell you the pay tables at different casinos so if you're planning a trip somewhere, you can plug in the correct pay tables so you'll be ready when you get there.
And now the big coincident. I've only been playing video poker for about a month or so. Not a lot. Today, I went to the casino during lunch and got my first royal flush...$1,000. I've been practicing with this software just about every day. I'm not saying it was all because of the software, but I think it helped. I know I'm making the right choices. I just happen to hit a royal today.
As others had mentioned, the screen is small and cannot be enlarged. It's not too bad for something like Jacks or Better where there's only the one hand, but the Hundred Hand games are pretty small since there's so much more going on. Overall, I like it. Glad I got it. I just think the strategy chart is way too confusion.
