About the author

Morgan Brice is the romance pen name of bestselling author Gail Z. Martin. Morgan writes urban fantasy MM paranormal romance, with plenty of action, adventure and supernatural thrills to go with the happily ever after. Gail writes epic and urban fantasy, with less romance, more explosions.
All of the modern-day Morgan Brice and Gail Z. Martin series crossover, so characters from one series appear in cameos and on page in important secondary roles in books from other series. Each book can be read as a standalone, but the more you read the more the expanded universe of friendships and connections becomes clear.
Morgan and Gail believe that paranormal elements make any story even better, and her worlds are full of ghosts, psychics, shifters, creatures, vampires, monster hunters, and magic.
She's also a huge fan of the TV show Supernatural. (Chibi art by Kamidiox)

There's a little bit of mystery and intrigue, which I also enjoy in a book. When it's mixed with the paranormal it hits a lot of the right notes for me so if that's something you like, then I'd give this book a try.
There were a lot of good character details worked into the book, like how Liam learned more about being a fox (don't want to give it away) and who was in the pack Russ is part of are two such details. When a book is going to be part of a series I enjoy the series more when it's not a lot of info dump in each book but a slower development of the characters over time. We already know something about characters who living Fox Hollow so when they show up later we'll recognize them and understand how they fit into the story.
Right now this is a stand alone series but there's a line that sets it up to be connected to Brice's larger universe and I look forward to seeing how that might play out.
The world building was well done and I especially enjoyed learning through dialogue more than periodic info dumps. The supporting characters are all very well fleshed, with a lot of easy choices for next couples.
Without giving away anything, if you like fated mates, mixed species shifter towns, fighting against hunters, dealing with previous loss of love, a feisty fox and a sweet alpha wolf, this book is for you!
Liam and Russ was a great couple and I loved the inner dialogue with their animals. Especially Liam fox should is quite the sassy one. I would have loved to see them together in animal form but al in all it was a really good book with an interesting story.
Will definitely buy the next book xnd see how it continues but this book is just as good as a standalone.
I'm really digging this new series by Morgan Brice. I'm a sucker for the fated mate trope in paranormal romance and this series is like catnip because of it. I can't wait to see how it will crossover with her other series. I loved the romance and the town of Fox Hollow! I can’t wait to read more stories set in this world! Morgan Brice proved yet again why she’s one of my favorite auto-buy authors. I loved that the main character was a fox shifter! I really appreciate how Morgan Brice has embraced writing unconventional shifters lately. It's been refreshing.

The characters were likeable, and were well developed which was definitely assisted by the alternating POV. What we did miss was what happened between Liam and Russ with regards to the mating bond - what it felt like when they actually bonded, could they communicate telepathically, feel each others feelings etc. It was all glossed over - they mated and then we skipped immediately to the epilogue.
While the storyline flowed well, I wasn't quite clear as to whether this was supposed to have some mystery and intrigue with the Huntsman, or whether it was so obvious by design. Sometimes it read like we were meant to be trying to figure out who was behind it, but I found it glaringly obvious who was involved. I also found the story missed closing out some loose ends (like the couch - they completely messed it up, said they were going to clean it up the next morning but got the emergency call so it never got cleaned and was never mentioned again - simple things, but things that were specifically called out and then left hanging). And where did Drew keep going any time Russ and Liam were at the cabin? We never see Drew there when Liam is, and shenanigans occur all over the house and they never get caught or teased by Drew.
Overall it was still a fun read, and I can see a clear setup for Drew and Noah, but I also found it easy to put down. I would suggest it's a good read if you're after something light with shifter themes that doesn't make you think too hard.
