Oka-Kane and Chandler family secrets revealed as Gabe and Eva Chandler find love amidst wedding

Rai nicely brings nicely provides closure to two of the main secrets for the Oka-Kane and Chandler families teased about in the first two books as first-book couple Nicholas and Livvy retreat to a country mansion for their wedding.

In the bosom of their extended family, Gabe, the adopted son of the housekeeper who has grown up next to the rich kids of the family, and Eva, the youngest Chandler who has lived under her emotionally abusive father and over-protective brother her entire life, finally acknowledge their long-term crushes on each other.

Gabe has a secret, but Eva does, too. And the question of why Maria and Robert (parents of current couples) died in car accident all those years ago is satisfactorily settled with all children knowing they were loved.

Rai does an awful good job of writing sexy romances set within the contentious, but healing family. Its the various Oka-Kane / chandlers that I have come to look forward to in these books, the reserved matriarch Tani, the quiet and introverted master chef Jackson, the wheelchair bound partriarch John, etc, etc.

The way this romance stands out a bit from the norm (other than the awesome family and the references to Japanese Internment that I really appreciated) is that Eva is curvy. And Rai doesn't shy away from talking about backrolls or jiggling parts or whatnot. And its handled deftly and sexily and I wish more people would write books that encompass real body shapes like this.

Gabe is a tattoo artist by trade, and while there is one poignant reference to a traditional Hawaiian tattoo he received, and some mentions of scribbling, I wanted deeper context and details about him as an artist and his store.

This is a terrific romance trilogy and there's even more coming down the pipeline as Gabe's sister gets the next romance.

After liking but not loving the first book in this series, but really loving the second I was really excited to get to Eve's story. She is a character I've been excited to get to from the first book. I really enjoyed seeing her journey, from her crush on Gabe to finally finding what she wanted to do with her life that didn't revolve around her family business. I loved Gabe as a hero (such a cinnamon roll), and I adored the relationship between the two. This book is full of mutual pining, forced proximity, family secrets coming to light, love and of course just like the other books in the series some major steam. I loved the diversity in this book, thought it was a great conclusion of this series.

First of all, don’t start with this novel. This is the third book in a trilogy and although it is technically a standalone, you are doing yourself and this amazing series a tremendous disservice if you start from here. Not only isn’t it the best book in the series (it’s great don’t get me wrong, but Book 2 and Book 1 are better), but it’s also the conclusion of a wonderful and intriguing backstory for the Chandler-Kane families that unravels across the 3 books.

I highly recommend this book. Like the others in the series, it’s covers serious themes like recovering from abuse and mental health and grief and forgiveness and trauma and it also features a cast of diverse characters both in ethnicity and sexual orientation in away that is inclusive but isn’t about those issues.

I’ve been in a book slump and this is the first series I’m excited about in a while. It should say something that I read this trilogy in about 24 hours, staying up late to finish books and waking up before my alarm on a work day just to continue reading this specific book. I HIGHLY recommend this series. It’s a little on the borderline erotic romance side of things, which I didn’t think was necessary with the strength of the characters and emotion here, but I suppose it’s good to have spicy romance novels that also have strong, meaningful stories. READ THIS SERIES!

there was nothing i did not love about this book, and i thought eve was possibly the most compelling of the heroines in the forbidden hearts series. true story, and i say this having read "hate to want you" four times because i loved livvy that much. for me, eve was so heartbreakingly relatable in the way she navigated her emotions; what was okay to say/to feel/to express versus what would be unseemly or dramatic or bring unwanted attention upon herself made me cry on multiple occasions.

gabe was equally lovely, though slightly less fleshed-out than nico or even jackson, but he had been there being low-key awesome from the opening chapter of book 1 and i was happy to spend some time getting to know him and his big heart and his big secrets that turned out not to be so big in the end because everyone gets their HEA. and when i say everyone, i mean everyone - all of the chandler/kane mysteries are revealed and resolved in this book, and all of us are better for it.

alisha rai's writing gets better and better with each book, more emotional and layered and complex, and the steamy factor did not disappoint - does it ever, in one of her books?

Eve and Gabe’s story is my favorite of the three and it had everything I need from my romance novels as it made me go through every emotion you can think of and gave me a most satisfying ending with answers and more to all my questions. Alisha Rai has unique sweet conscientious good people as her characters.
She describes families and their grumbly, difficult, patient and fragile compromises very well.
I will read her books again.

This one was weak on the romance for me.
The heroine seemed very new adult to me, still gettting to adulthood and insecure, shy, and convinced of her own weirdness.
She worked through that in the book.
But I never got why the hero was not just a crush, or an idol.

There was no demonstration of when or how these two fell in love.

The hero fell into lust with her beaautifully, and that was hot, the resulting erotic dance between them captivated me and kept me interested.

But love?
No conversation, no tender feelings, no complicity that was ever built. Just implied.
For me, that misses the mark in a romance.

However, a lovely story of the families, and the main characters of the former two books in the trilogy, worth reading for that, good conclusion to the big long family drama.
