Jen, a young widow, is kidnapped by Tom, a friend of her dead husband. According to Tom, her husband orchestrated her capture. Tom held Jen in a safe house with wild tales about keeping her safe from “them”, but who were they?
As the story unravels, Jen discovers everyone in her life isn’t who they say they are. She struggles with her situation and calls out to God, but she doesn't think he’s listening. After an escape from human traffickers, Jen and Tom are hauled into a small police station in Canyon, Texas. She’s sent home, but he’s arrested. She realizes she’s fallen in love with him and may never see him again.
Out of her deception, her faith grows and she learns He caused the storm to be still, So that the waves of the sea were hushed.
Ms Cosgrove writing style weaves into a descriptive story demanding not to be put down. The story arc and the character development are well-toned. This is a wonderfully written romantic suspense that keeps you guessing to the end.
My biggest issue with this story is the non-ending hook into the next book. If you are looking for feel good fluff...keep looking. If you are looking for unsettling reality wrapped in fiction, this may be for you.
I don't want to give story plot away, but suffice it to say there were more plot twists that left me in a daze. What an emotional roller coaster.
I loved Jen. She was believable, and funny, and courageous. The emotional pain and betrayal by those she trusted was raw.
Tom! I wanted to smack him in the beginning. I almost stopped reading especially in the beginning because of her whole kidnapping ordeal. Tom seemed like a sick sadistic bastard. I realize he had to protect her but sheesh. He put her through hell in beginning. I am familiar with the term Stockholm syndrome and really thought she was going through that. I hated how he treated her in beginning. He seemed like a sneaky sleaze ball. Seriously! It really took me a while to warm up to him, but he ended up redeeming himself. I was cheering for him.
Robert should have been castrated. Evil sick bastard. True evil personified.
All I know is I can't wait to give in sequel.
Still reeling after the death of her husband, Jen, the main character, is thrust into a storm of treachery she may not survive. As if being kidnapped by a former co-worker, drugged, and lied to isn't enough, she keeps imagining she hears her dead husband's voice. The twists and turns in Cosgrove's book, Hush in the Storm, are delicious! Cosgrove's experiences, life interests and emotional causes shine through her words. Just when you think the story is settling down, it takes you on a wild ride again all the way to a satisfying end!
