A great read. Not only do you learn about the Mystics and the story behind their success, but the story puts you in that period of (1950-early 60's) involving other famous artists.
The book definitely puts you on the Brooklyn street conners, under the street lamps

If you are a fan of doowop, Rock and Roll or grew up in NYC, you are going to love this book. Read about how difficult it was to make it to the top, and how little they got paid for doing so. Loved it!

I love this book. Its filled with trivia and facts about the 1950s and 60s
music business which wasn't always so pretty.
I took it with me a a recent Mystics concert and had George and Phil autograph it.

A friend recommended this book to me...and being a guy who grew up in that era, I loved it. It was just like reading a story about five guys from Brooklyn in the late 50's and into the years after that. I absolutely enjoyed it ...one of the best stories I have read in a while. Thanks Al Contrera!

As a lover of this music and having singing bari tone with groups in the early sixties . I thou ght this book nailed it. Everyt A!'ll of us started singing on street corners under stressed boardwalks or lobbies.hing was as he said, we all started singing on corners under boardwalks or in apt blogs doorways! I met the Mystics at a sho w in Patchoge and got to talk with them in the lobby! Great guys along with Larry Chance ,also do talented and a genuine nice person! This book is highly recommended for anyone born during the 50's. I am almost 72 and loved every minute of it! Larry B

All started on street corners under stressed boardwalks or lobbies.I met the Mystics in a lobby at the Patchogue theatre. They are really nice guys with a lot of talent! I highly recommend reading it. Larry B

Very interesting story of the beginning of the Mystics, including all the members, a lot of info of how record hits are made and the whos behind a lot of the deals.

Entertaining, but needed editing
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 12, 2020Verified Purchase
Interesting and entertaining account of a doo-wop group’s brush with pop stardom, even though it can be hard for the reader to keep up as the Albees, Joes, Als, Phils etc come thick and fast.
If, like me, you rushed down to your local record shop in the late fifties to grab the latest Top Rank doo-wop gem, it’s sad to discover the singers weren’t always the clean-cut American idols of our imagination, but kids living in an environment where the police were often seen as the enemy and armed hold-ups and even murders almost common-place.
Unfortunately, this book is in desperate need of editing. In just one example of sloppy proof-reading, a woman is named as Vicki, Vickie and Vicky, all in the same paragraph.
