My leaf blower did not work out of the box. I followed the assembly instructions to a "t." I promptly called customer service. They walked me through to troubleshoot. The customer service person suspected that there was too much gas in the engine. The manual said to "press the air purge repeatedly until the fuel begins to fill the bulb." Based on that, I pushed it 10-12 times, as no fuel was going into the bulb at all. On the phone, the customer service representative suspected there was too much fuel in the engine. "Your not supposed to press it more than 2-3 times, she said." -- "Why isn't that in the manual then?!?," I asked.
(As a side note, the manual is the worst one I've ever received. The diagrams are not at all useful and the text is not clear. What does "align the handle holder with the convex of the control pipe" mean when the control pipe is perfectly round?)
On their recommendation, I let the product sit for several days to "dry out." I (along with two others) tried to start it again with no luck. I was unable to return the product directly to Amazon because it was a gas product. Several days later, I called Husqvarna.
After going through several layers of managers (3, I believe) the senior customer service representative walked me through starting the machine telling me condescendingly that, "It is almost always user error. I have a really good track record of getting machines to start over the phone. I'll walk you through it." Of course, the machine didn't start and the representative didn't know why.
He told me that I needed to take it to a repair shop so that their service person could diagnose the issue. Husqvarna's warranty was to repair the product. They wouldn't accept a return because they didn't sell it to me. All of the Husqvarna repair places were about 30 minutes away from my suburban Philadelphia home. They all also charged a $30 diagnostic fee which Husqvarna would not commit to paying.
Furthermore, that same senior manager, one manager suggested that I (a woman) simply wasn't pulling the cord hard enough, even though I had already told him that several other people couldn't start it either. The sexism could not have been more apparent.
Despite the fact that the product never once started, Husqvarna refused to do anything but tell me to take it to a repair shop where I may be on the hook for a $30 diagnostic fee and repair charges if Husqvarna determined that the "repairs" (to a machine that never worked) were not covered under the warranty.
I will _never_ be purchasing another Husqvarna machine.
