They suggest reversing the bar with every use and so getting the bar on and off has to be easy, and it is. Two bolts hold the bar and chain assembly, and a worm screw tightens up the chain; so it's easy to adjust and flip the bar over. The starting sequence looks to be somewhat long and convoluted but after a few times it makes sense, and the machine starts right up. A pressure release button is a big help. Like all chain saws, you need to keep an eye on a new chain because they can stretch fairly quickly. Because of the easy adjustment screw, it is simple to make such adjustments.
On my old chain saw, bar oil spilled over everything, but on the Rancher, it has some kind of oil regulator that keeps the oil where it belongs. The 20" bar and the machine are not too heavy, but your arms will get a workout. It's the perfect compromise between a big professional level chain saw and one for home use.
Keep your saw clean, your blades sharp, and you will be able to tackle all jobs and keep the saw performing well.
20" bar on a 60cc saw is just about perfect, though you can really scream and rip with an 18". 24" bar should not be considered- too many teeth to pull for a 60cc saw.
I recommend cranking the oiler up to full output. Factory setting is at 2/3.
The extra 5cc over the 455 is worth it; an extra 10% displacement gets you into the higher torque range for just a few dollars more.
Seasonal service and chain sharpening/replacement is all I have done in the year I have owned mine.
Saw starts on 2nd pull cold/ 1st pull hot. Easy starts in all kinds of weather. Compression release is appreciated toward end of day, and saves you pulling your arm out of the shoulder socket. Saw is relatively light and has a good "Husqy" feel to it. Very different than a Stihl.
Easy to muffler mod and re-tune carb for a permanent power boost after break-in. A 3/8" hole in the muffler, some stainless screen and pop rivets are all it took. Saw runs cooler and stronger after mod.
As far as power, it is not a pro saw, but I have used it for felling- mostly Cherry and Oak, averaging 16" diameter many times for the past year. I also used it twice for storm cleanup but most of my usage is firewood processing. Pulls hard and cuts great. With the 60cc motor, it will "torque up" in your hands when revving. Pretty serious saw and top of the line mid-range for Husqy.
If you can't figure out to leave the chain brake off while servicing, you probably should not own such a saw. Recommended for experienced users.
