Baumgartners series: 95% sex scenes, 5% storyline
Hussy: 60% sex scenes, 40% storyline
Prior to this, I have read Selena's decadent Baumgartners series. It was lacking a storyline, naughtiness-cover to cover. With Hussy, however, Selena took on a slightly different approach. There's an actual storyline, centering around a broken girl Lindsey - touching on real issues like incest and rape.
The title self-explains the kind of girl Lindsey was. The first half of the book shed light into her lifestyle - a 'forced' threesome, the laundry guy, the Principal. All these canoodling, until she met Zach.
You're a very girl."
She shrugged. "Yeah? So?"
He adjusted his white hat, still meeting her eyes. "So you don't have to do that to get attention."
I like how he was patient with her, and made her see her worth. How he held her and led her towards realisation and acceptance. How he accepts her for who she was, and what she had gone through.
Generally, Hussy was an okay book. But I don't have any emotional connection with the characters, and the sex were less adventurous. But that's how New Adult CR makes me feel - empty. I read the excerpt for Forbidden Fruit and that looks promising. I hope Selena would one day release a much longer book, packed with Baumgartner-style sex and a stronger plot!
Conclusion: Contains incest and rape, so if you're not comfortable with it, skip it.
I must say after the first couple of chapters I was uncertain on what to think. The writing was well done...(Totally HOT!) but again with the taboo of non-consensual sex I was again on the fence about how I felt. But I continued on. AND I AM GLAD THAT I DID!
I really enjoyed the story once Lindsey was with Zach (an interracial couple taboo for some NOT for me) Zach was there for her when no one else was and it was really great that he didn't judge her for her past but helped her realize that things weren't her fault.
I have to say that I was honestly drawn in wanting to sample more of Selena Kitt's books, I have found a few that are free on Amazon and have already downloaded "Taken" to read.
