5.0 out of 5 stars A++, but most people set it up wrong, tips.
By Arturo on July 15, 2016
This is a great powerhead. Aimed towards the top but still circulating the bottom. I've got the 425 in a 29 gallon, and most people recommend two, but one is by far enough. The problem is that from what I noticed in pictures provided in review and videos, they put the powerhead upside down. Follow the picture on the box. Although it may seem more practical to have the wire coming out from the top, the wire should actually be coming from the bottom. That weird flat end of the casing should be the bottom part. I set up mine as high up on the tank as I could so I could get that shimmering wave effect with the light, and even with that, I still have a lot of circulation at the bottom where the plants are. But when I have it at the middle or bottom, it does a great job of circulating. The plants really start to get moved a lot, which I don't really like anyway. But that's just to give you an idea of how strong it is. Also, you have to have the magnet on, or else it makes a really loud vibrating noise with just the suction cup

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little pump with some minor noise issues that can be corrected with positioning
By Nick Naylor on September 25, 2016
Great little pump: provides pretty solid circulation and my square and deep 30-gallon tank. I'm glad I decided to go with the 240 GPH pump rather than the larger one; I think the more powerful one would've been too strong for my tank.

The pump is solidly built, and I love the magnetic "clips" or suction cups or whatever they're calling them. There's a suction cup on the pump that isn't actually in use when using the magnets (which are removable). I actually love this because it allows the pump to be very easily positioned without having to go through the process of peeling off a suction cup. Just pull of the exterior part of the "clip" and you can move the pump around extremely easily. Put the clip back and now you're set.

My only reason for a 4-star review is that, occasionally, this thing can be extremely loud. I haven't quite figured out why it happens - I think it might be that the current gets a little turbulent and can cause some vibration. This is somewhat easily fixed with repositioning, and for the last day or so I've got in a position that makes it whisper quiet. However, when I first installed it, it would start off quiet and then gradually get louder and louder over the following hours until it was by far the loudest item in my tank (and I've got a pretty powerful air pump as well as an external canister). If you buy one of these and find this is a problem, try repositioning it, moving the cord, etc. until you can get it to work.

All that being said, I would happily buy another one of these pumps. I'm very happy with the quality and the noise level once it's positioned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best valued pumps out there! But make sure you understand what you need!!!
Reviewed in Canada on September 4, 2016
To start my review I would like to state that even though a power head says its for a 20G tank and you have a 20G tank, doesn't mean you can only by one power head and be like "Yay, I have flow everywhere!". You need more than one to achieve appropriate flow through your tank, especially if you are hosting corals. If hosting corals you need to have at least 30x the flow vs volume of your tank. So if you have a 20 gallon nano you would need at LEAST 600 gallons per hour of water movement.

I have seen people complain about the tank ratings post by Koralia saying they are inaccurate but I beg to differ. The ratings are there to guide you which power head provides USEFUL FLOW WITHOUT POSSIBLY UPSETTING INHABITANTS. With that said, I have had experience with all three Koralia nano power heads so I will be reviewing all three.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All three pump generally are designed the same way. I find them very reliable and quiet but they can click when they start up so using them with a wave maker can be annoying. The magnetic mounting is probably the best feature. No more suction cup issues here! You can even slide the magnet on the external side of the glass to move or adjust the location of the pump. These magnets are STRONG so be careful not to let them slam up against your glass! Directing the power head is a little meh. The amount of tilt you get is limited and the power cord works against you and gets in the way. They all come apart the same way and are generally easy to clean. Now for the individual remarks......

First up is the Hydor Koralia Nano 240!!! This pump is pretty timid. It could be used solo in a 5 gallon. For a 10 or 15 you should consider getting 2 unless you are getting some decent water movement from another source such as a Hang-On Back Filter. Another useful feature is to simple remove that one annoying dead spot in larger tanks. They are small and can be nicely hidden from sight.

Second up is the Hydor Koralia Nano 425!! This is a sweet little pump and works great for water movement. I had three ( an example of needing more than one which came out to 1275 gallons per hour ) in a tall 25 gallon marine tank and they did a great job! From personal experience I wouldn't used these in a tank longer than 24" like a 20 gallon long ( 30" long tank ). It can't really reach far enough to the other end.

Lastly is the Hydor Koralia Nano 565!! This a new nano pump from Hydor, The pump basically looks like a 425 but with some mods to push more water. It works fabulous and if you have a 20-40 gallon tank, I would skip over the 425 and go straight to these. The extra flow is worth it, especially if your tank is of the marine type.

Overall these pumps are great. They run quiet and don't need lots of maintenance. There are fancier pumps out there for sure, but spending $50 on these versus $200 on those, these pumps are a win.
