Neither flashlight is cost-effective. A much better source of energy is AmazonBasics rechargeable batteries ($33.98 for 8 AA batteries plus a charger). The batteries keep their charge for years, and can be re-charged more than a thousand times. With AmazonBasics batteries, you could power four flashlights, and they would last so long that you could pass then down to your grandchildren.
I decided to wait till weekend when I had some time off to retrieve the light. When the weekend arrived, I went out to my backyard to go about the chore of retrieving the Hydralight from the pond, but to my surprise, there was no pond to retrieve it from! The Hydralight had ran through the week and converted my entire koi pond into light! Now all of my koi are dead. My advice is, keep this product away from all bodies of water. If it reaches the ocean, we are all doomed.

But whatever you do, do not waste a dime on this deceptive abomination.
You easily dip it into any type of water to activate it. We used tap water. After 7 seconds I was able to reinsert the “battery” and away we went.
The light was nice and bright. I was able to turn off the lights outside and shine is across the patio to read writing on the opposite side of the room. To me it felt like a typical flashlight strength, which is amazing since all it needs is water!
We let it run for 2 hours the first night. It stayed bright on the one water dip we did. I tested the next morning (12 hours later) and I was still able to use it in the first water dip. I was impressed!
We will use it for hurricane season, but this is so helpful for camping, hiking, or just having around the house and not having to worry about batteries.
