I work in agriculture and wanted an insulated bottle for using in the field. My bottles get dirt, etc., all over them by nature of the job. At first glance I was excited about the standard mouth bottle, but after using for one day I realize that your mouth has to go on the outside rim of the bottle - in my case, where dirt is. The wide mouth bottles have an interior lip that's protected by the cap, thus providing a clean, dirt-free rim for you to drink from. If you're throwing this standard mouth bottle in a backpack for work or hiking it's a great bottle, but for truly outdoor, in-the-elements use cases I would suggest getting the wide mouth bottle for sanitary reasons (and it's easier to clean, too).
