Top Customer Reviews
I wasn't expecting an expedition grade raft for $122, but I was expecting an un-damaged product. The raft I received was definitely in new condition, but came with 3 holes from along bend creases and 1 micro hole that took me 3 days to discover. Interestingly, all the holes were on one tube. So new out of the box, I had to repair 4 holes. The oar lock design is ingenious, but the oars are a bit too long meaning they will collide at the hands if paddling in sync. I cut them about an inch shorter and made them perfect....this is when I noticed how thin walled they are. I'd recommend bringing an emergency backup paddle if you are attempting any kind of rough water or paddling any distance carrying a load.
I did use this raft on the survival trip on the Willamette in flood stage winter water levels and it did well. It did develop another leak in the problem tube during the trip, but I have yet to find it. If I had not chopped the oars already and if I could figure a way to easily repack the raft, I'd send it back...but it's already been a hassle dealing with the leaks that I kind of just want to put the experience being me and chalk this up as a loss. I'm just glad I was able to finish the trip.
The boat is still holding air after three days inflated, that's good. The quality of the materials appears to be acceptable for the price. I'll reserve further comments until I get it out on the water. As long as it holds air and floats, I'll forgo the hassle of returning it, just work around the relative minor problems. Hopefully the vendor reads these reviews and can take steps to improve.
My wife and I (I'm 6'1 and 200lbs, and she is 5'7 and 115lbs) fit comfortably in the boat with a small cooler, two life vests, the supplied pump, tackle box, and two fishing poles. We floated a section of Class 1 to 2 river by our house to put this through the paces, and the boat performed excellent. The oars are good quality aluminum. The oar locks are sturdy, and the boat rows well. During a few of the rougher sections of the river, I bounced the boat off of several rocks. I couldn't even find a scratch when we took the boat out of the water!
This boat feels like an inflatable you would take on the ocean. For the price, you simply cannot beat it. I would gladly purchase again!!
Because I wanted to have the ability to power this little boat I also ordered the Intex motor mount, which does fit perfectly . The boat only took 10 minutes to set up with the provided pump ( had set it up at home first to be sure of no leaks) . Added a piece of plywood with pipe insulation on the edges for a more solid floor . As set up , it worked flawlessly . Spent a few hours on the water fishing with it and had zero problems. I like that I can toss it and my boat motor in my small car with my fishing gear and head to any body of water without towing a trailer or needing an actual boat launch .
For someone looking at purchasing this , I would have to say that adding the plywood floor is a good and cheap addition . The motor mount from Intex fits and does a good job . But I would not go bigger than a 3 hp two stroke for a gas engine . I am running a 2 hp and it goes along well without trying to bend the back of the boat down to much . Great boat for one person or possibly two if you don't have to much gear .
If this one ever gives up the ghost I will buy another . Would recommend it to anyone wanting a quick and easy boat that is easy to transport as well as set up / take down . Perfect for apartment dwellers or those not having space for a full time boat .
