GROW!T horticultural clay pebbles are made from 100% natural clay. They are clean, pH stable, and offer great aeration and drainage in hydroponics, especially in flood and drain, deep water culture, and drip feed systems. Due to their unique structure and ability to cover a large surface area, they offer the ideal environment to foster beneficial bacterial growth around the root zone, leading to naturally healthier plants.
GROW!T Clay Pebbles can be used for:
•Aeration of growing media - ideal to mix into coco coir or soil to aid aeration
•Drainage - will hold water as well as offering great aeration properties and free draining
•Decoration - looks great as a top dressing for pots and also helps to prevent evaporation
•Hydroponics/hydroculture - used widely in hydroponic growing, they are ideal for flood and drain, deep water culture and drip feed systems
•Aquaponics - are also ideal to be used in aquaponic systems

I have a rather large orchid collection (over 50 plants) I want to change over to these mixed with a little moss. fast shipping, nothing damaged. The bag came in a large box, nothing else. These pellets are not completely round or smooth, EXPECT odd shapes and sizes. The MUST be rinsed before use. I ran mine through water few times and gently rubbed all the pellets together. Right now I'm testing how long it takes to sink at the bottom of a jar, they are floating at the moment. I did re pot one smaller orchid and 💜. These are very light weight meaning....for my delicate orchids roots won't be damaged and will create good air pockets with out sufficating the roots. so far I'm in love...once Used more I will do another update.
Update 11/11/16. Been soaking 24 hours still float. This doesn't bother me but others it might. Will buy more if I run out.
New pictures of 1 orchid I re potted. Great stuff!!!
Ok I forgot about some that where soaking, week later they where still floating!
For my use it's fine, but others may not like this.
The Clay Pebbles are not spherical at all. I basically have a bag of clay colored gravel. I cut my hands on several pieces as I tried to fill the little net pots. That's absurd. There is so little clay baked onto the pebble that more of the burnt clay (the dark part of the rocks) remains exposed. This is not an aesthetic complaint. Clay pebbles were created and are favored by agriculturalists and gardners for a simple reason, they are easily washed and resused. However when the micro-pores on the clay pebbles are exposed, as in this case, the roots cling tightly to the pebbles, making them a permanent fixture in the root system ...without ripping them out. NORMAL round clay pebbles easily fall out when you shake the stalk. These are not re-usable and will have to simply be thrown out. And yah... they look like crap next to normal clay pebbles.
You can see in the image I provided, the poor quality, non spherical and mostly black rocks, compared to ACTUAL clay pebbles which should be 99% round.
Maybe there is some variation during the manufacturer's bagging process where you could get a batch from 'the bottom of the barrel', I don't know.
The size description is accurate.
As to those who complain that they float, I say that's a good thing. After all they are porous and full of air, what did you expect? I doubt if you want the manufacturer to ship them to you pre-soaked with a lot of water - like that soggy compost you get in bags at the hardware, that's sold by the pound.
Plus, where are you putting them that they are floating around? Anyway they will soak up water over time and give your plants the combination of air and moisture that roots need.
