Get the convenience of an Ebb & Flow System in a 22" x 22" x 10" size garden. Ebb &?flow (flood & drain) systems work by pumping nutrient solution up from a reservoir to a controlled water level tray. All plants are watered uniformly on a timed cycle.
Whether you’re a new urban farmer or an old-school green thumb, raising your own plants is easier, faster, and more fun than ever with this hydroponic gardening system. Hydrofarm Megagarden Hydroponic Gardening System features a 4-square-foot garden space that produces 5 times the yields of a standard garden its size. That’s right. This 10-inch-tall garden system grows lettuce, herbs, vegetables, orchids and more, indoors or out--5 times faster than the standard garden--and does it without using soil.
The Megagarden works great indoors, or outside in hobby greenhouses when illuminated with a Hydrofarm Sunburst Series grow light (not included), or any grow light. At the heart of the Megagarden is a super efficient flood-and-drain pump irrigation system that ensures optimal moisture control for healthy roots. The system works by pumping nutrient solution up from a reservoir to a water tray where water levels are precisely controlled. Plants are watered uniformly on a timed cycle for optimal moisture control and healthier roots.
The soilless Megagarden’s removable grow tray measures 23 inches by 23 inches square and holds fifteen 5-inch, plastic grow pots filled with, not soil, but either the included fired-clay or pebble grow media. The system comes complete a 7-1/2-gallon reservoir, submersible pump, timer (capable of up to 12 flood settings per day), rock-wool starter cubes, 16 ounces of Hydrofarm All-Purpose Nutrient, a pH test kit, and complete instructions.

I initially decided during my first run with the unit that using the included square pots and hydroton media gave me sub-par results. So I ditched the pots, repurposed the hydroton for my terrariums, and began using 4-inch rockwool cubes. These are the perfect swap-outs for the square containers that came with it. They have the same dimensions as the bottoms of the square pots, so you can use the same number of them (15 or 16... most people eventually figure out that you can put a 16th pot on top of the access hole and it will be stable enough not to worry about it). I'm just a huge fan of the convenience of rockwool cubes. But whenever I want to grow one single tree in this unit, I actually use a single fabric pot filled with 50/50 perlite/vermiculite, right smack on the middle of the flood tray.
Anyway, I'm just taking the time to do this review because I'm a huge proponent of "credit where credit is due," and this system has truly taken care of me for a long time, and it just keeps on ticking. It's solidly built. Obviously I've replaced the pump by now. In fact, I believe I'm on my second out-of-pocket replacement. But that's to be expected. They're cheap anyway, at every big box store these days. So honestly, I just want people to know that if you are hesitant about buying it, because it *is* kind of pricy for the size unit you are getting, DON'T BE! It's totally worth it. I've been using mine since 2012 and I'm about to press the button to order a second one because this thing is tried and true.
a bit of a pain to clean unless you get 2 so you can swap plants and give full cleaning.
should come with air pump and timer that does 5 min intervals instead of 15min. you can upgrade those if you want though.
I used a drip manifold on the pump to feed seedlings until the roots got long enough to reach the flooding,
If you want to produce something you consume then this is worth the investment instead of trying to make it yourself.
Fits in my 3x3 tent like a dream with room around it.
Each time you see a cut in my video that is one week that has passed. The end is my plants at 11 weeks.
The plants that grew fast are sili peppers from the Philippines and the slower smaller plants are calamansi also from the Philippines.
I was unwilling to wait 3 or 4 days for a response so I am returning this item for an exact exchange/replacement. However, I am afraid the replacement will have the same problem, this is all China made stuff. If that happens to be the case I will get a refund and purchase H2OtoGro® products from Amazon.
Hydrofarm has no product support they say to contact the seller. Thank God for Amazons great product return/refund/exchange policy.
I attached a photo of the grommet, but you really can't see the constant leak coming from it, almost streaming out.
