This is the 2nd unit I have bought in last few years, we watch a friends black lab quite often on weekends and he is major excited when we drag this thing out. Would be the perfect dog toy but I break a lot of straps on them, if I can get a strap to last all weekend I’m lucky. Yes I am probably over hard on it, the dog likes you to shoot balls far and high which this beast can do. I read another review about a guy going to try to use a heavier duty tube , might do some more investigating. Anyhow, with the down fall of the weak bands I still have to rec’d a must purchase, can’t find anything better and the dog goes wild over it. Just make sure to order 4 or 5 sets of straps and you’ll be good
UPDATE - DONT BUY EXTRA STRAPS , THEY ARE JUNK - Order 3/8 Rubber Speargun Tubing (408) Black 10Ft sold by Spearit Group LLC —- Made my own straps, stronger , throws ball farther, and so far after several hours of use has not broke, doesn’t even look worn. The original straps will look deteriorated after just of few throws and will eventually just snap and break. Think they make them junky on purpose to sell extra straps, no way you could be the designer and not figure out how to make a better product in my opinion which is disappointing. I’ll still leave a 4 because the dog absolutely loves this toy, especially now when it doesn’t break every time we go out.

I have a new, young, high energy german shepherd dog who loves to chase balls. Until now, I considered the " holey roller " a very good choice. However, being a retiree with arthritis, the dog could run faster than I could throw it and, worse, he was still raring to go while I was too pooped to pant. Enter the hyper pet ball launcher. I can launch the balls nearly the length of the yard with little effort. Lobs or bouncing grounders, the dog puts out max effort and seems to enjoy himself, besides. Best dog toy since the frisbee. Dogs CAN be trained to bring one ball back before launching the next. Only down side is the slobber on the tennis ball fur which also collects grass, twigs and lord knows what else. It's unavoidable. Might try a fuzz-less ball. Haven't had a problem with the band breaking. The rubber doesn't seem old or stiff.
Replacement bands ( with pouch attached ) are readily available at a reasonable price.
UPDATE:
It's been over a year now and, even though I bought a replacement, the original band is going strong.
I added a piece of rubber pipe insulation to the crossbar of the wrist brace for a better fit.
BTW, the advantage to four balls over the single..... what do you do if the ball goes over the fence or into dense brush where the dog can't find it? Spares are good to have on hand.
In spite of naysayers, this is STILL F I V E. stars.
Update again.
Nearly two years now, and I have little to add. I've had to replace the rubber twice, once because I didn't follow directions and glue the caps in place properly.
The dog still enjoys the chase and it still doesn't badly aggravate my arthritis. I'm guessing the launcher has outlasted several of those spring loaded, bazooka looking things.
Yeah, if I wanted to be critical, I could say the design could use a couple of M I N O R tweaks, but this gadget is head and shoulders over second place.
Still FIVE stars cuz I can't put in more.

Nice simple piece of bent metal. Seems there are a lot of complaints about breaking bands. I'm getting some appropriate sized speargun tubing.
I bought this for two purposes
1. To play with my sons dog in the backyard when they visit
2. To launch "throw lines" into trees for climbing and limbing.
The backyard is about 1/4 acre with my farthest potential throw about 100 feet. But I have to be very accurate. This launcher affords me the accuracy for numerous "throws" without my arm wearing out. I can take the hyperactive dog out, sit in my chair on my deck and shoot balls to the back fence accurately till he gets tired.
For launching throw lines it's excellent. There is a similar product called the "Big Shot" for launching throw lines but it's overkill for my trees.

I like ‘the idea of the hyper pet ball launcher’ more than the actual item. It arrived with a broken rubber band. The company replaced the entire unit within a reasonable time. The launcher is actually pretty heavy due to how it needs to be held. And how it needs to be held, I feel, it rather awkward. It’s a really big slingshot for tennis balls. Like I said I like the idea. Someone will come along and invent one that is comfortable to use, launches the tennis ball a long way and doesn’t tire you out quickly. I kept it because the grandkids get a kick out of it whether it launches correctly or not. (Note: it’s actually way too big for any of my grandkids, but they don’t know it😜.)

I haven't had mine long enough to confirm or deny that the bands wear out quickly. I did get a second set of tubes just in case. The launcher does work well though and it's fun to play with all the dogs at the park and be able to shoot different sizes of balls. I was going to get a tennis ball gun, but found this for less money and it's more versatile in that it can handle balls bigger or smaller than a standard tennis ball. The main con of this is the ball holder at the bottom of the handle.
The product would honestly be better without that holder as when you pull the launcher back to fire a ball, it pulls the ball handle away from your wrist. When you release it, the holder snaps back and hits you on the bottom of the wrist and it's bare metal against bone most of the time. I've alleviated this by wrapping the holder in some felt tape to make a half inch cushion that hits the wrist instead, but it's still an annoying aspect of the launcher. I can't complain too hard, though, as I paid 8 bucks for this and 5 for an additional set of tubes. The guns I was looking at were 20+.

Great fun for us and the dog
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 26, 2015Size: 4 BallVerified Purchase
We are really pleased with this product. It is well made and considered thought has gone into it's design. We had seen the reviews suggesting it didn't live up to it's promise by not delivering on distance and so were mixed in our expections of what it would it would do but ordered it on the basis that it looked like it would be fun for us if not the dog and with our practical abilities that we could engineer out it's failings. After 3 weeks of owning it we have had so much fun, the dog is even faster and looks disappointed when we pick up the standard chucker. My older 6'4" son and my younger 12 year old (5'8") and myself at 6'3" all quickly worked out that others who have reviewed this product and weren't getting the range must be doing something different from those who were. After a bit of very enjoyable and fun experimentation we soon got distances of up to 75m. What makes it different from a chucker is, as others have said the speed at which the ball flies. Also the accuracy and variation of usage lead to great fun for our dog (a long legged Bodmin moor mutt), who being a terrier loves be challenged. It can be fired high and long or low along the ground on short grass, beaches, tracks etc and anything in between. The downside is that it it is bigger and heavier than a chucker so not so good for longer walks, the balls supplied were good (notice past tense) and bouncy but not up to much resistance. I have since bought
The Dog's Balls - 12 Strong Dog Tennis Balls - Dog Ball Dog Toy for Dog Training, Dog Play, Dog Exercise and Dog Fetch. Strong Dog Tennis Ball for Chuckit and Other Launchers. Tough, Bouncy Tennis Ball for Your Puppy too, No Dog Toy Squeaker, The King Kong of Dog Balls! Held in a Drawstring Carry Bag - Woof Woof:)
which have so far resisted her jaws and work really well with the launcher. No spare elastic with ours but so far not looking like it needs it yet. We have thought of improvements we could make to the design but there is no real need.

Needs a strong arm but accurate and powerful. A few quality issues.

Well made item apart from the disappointing finish to the pouch. There is hole there, presumably to help locate the ball and to hook over the frame when in transit,. But the hole was really badly punched out and fraying badly. Very poor workmanship and writing on the pouch was also worn away. Fires very well but not recommended for children as it needs quite a draw and a bit of practice. Impossible to shoot without using the brace. Does shoot the ball a considerable distance. Rubber band already after 2 days seems to be perishing where it meets the frame. This is almost like the band is second hand although the frame is clearly new. Very odd.
Unless you need multiple balls, go for the much cheaper single ball launcher.
Dog loves it and especially good at firing balls way up in the air for the dog to track.

I'm average height 5'10", and on full pull it goes about 200m which I think is pretty good. I use balls smaller and harder than tennis balls for my collie and when stood at the top of a hill it's enough to get her a decent work-out before a free-walk.
Unfortunately the elastic lasted a month before snapping, then another 3 weeks before snapping irreparably.
Shame as otherwise it's very good.

Hardly works. I'm disappointed. The dogs are disappointed, however we have switched back to one of the chucking devices with an extending handle. Love it. Dogs hoot for it!
