I wanted a flush mountable light to mount into the existing light boxes in the ceiling of my garage so I could wire it directly in rather than use the included cord that uses an inline switch. I've done this with other LED fixtures in the past (fixtures designed for direct wiring cost a lot more, though I've never understood why). However, the channel inside this fixture where the cord routes to the power supply is extremely narrow. That narrow gap makes it problematic to do what I want, though not necessarily impossible. There's just no way for me to get into that gap to wire this fixture directly to my house wiring. It appears they attached the power supply to the power cord and LED strips on this fixture, potted the connections, and then stuffed the entire affair down into that narrow gap. I might possibly be able to fish all that back out to gain access to the wiring, but there's a good chance I'd damage the light if I tried that. It also means I wouldn't be able to use wire nuts for the new connections because they won't fit into the channel. I'd have to solder the new connections, re-pot them, and hope I could stuff all that back down the channel again. I'd also have to devise some way to get the wires to exit out where I want, so you can probably understand why I don't want to go that route.
Although these fixtures are unusable for me, I didn't downrate them based on that because what I'm trying to do just isn't what these fixtures were designed for. I deducted one star because they aren't truly flush mountable as advertised. As I said earlier though, that might not be a problem for you. However, I downrated them another star because of the inline switch on the power cord. These lights are marketed primarily as shop lights and, to a lesser extent, garage lights. Most garage ceilings and almost all shop ceilings are going to be higher than a typical home ceiling, and you'll simply have great difficulty reaching those cord switches unless you hang the lights really low. I imagine that wouldn't be the first preference for most people wanting shop or garage lights, so I consider this a significant drawback. If they'd used chain switches that hang down, as most of these sort of lights do, it would have made the lights more useful. But again, that might not be a problem for your installation.
I need to note that, although these lights aren't true flush mount and have problems with using the cords on high ceilings, I'm still going to use them. I'm going to put them in an aircraft hangar I'm building where I can custom fit the electrical wiring to make these lights suitable for my use. I used to be an electrician, so I can wire all the ceiling plugs into one circuit. That way I can leave the cord switches turned on permanently and use a wall switch to operate all my lights. They do give out good light. It's a shame that it's necessary to customize my electrical wiring to use them.
As to this specific product, I've installed them in the garage. Very sturdy, well-deserved, and attractive despite being a "utility" light. The package has all the relevant hardware to install the product. In fact, even the hanger hardware is super nice. I used to be an electrician, installing many, many lights in a graduate educational institution. Inevitably, on the days we'd install these florescent lighting units - by no means cheap ones - you knew to bring your good leather gloves and all your tools: these new fixtures would have very sharp edges, broken pin-holders, and bent sheet-metal. Not so with these beauties! It's almost as though they are channeling Steve Jobs in making them! Design, even light brightness and hue, seems carefully thought out and planned.
I've never had a need for support. If you take care of things before you ship, people often don't need replacements, guidance, etc. But, I feel confident that they would fix things up right away and without a lot of back and forth. When I've had pre-purchase questions, they did respond, even on a weekend.
The current theory of success in business says: charge whatever the market will bear and shareholders come before consumers. Hyperikon seems to have missed those days in business school, based my experience. They seem to have adopted a rather old-fashioned view: create novel and inspiring products; charge reasonable prices; insure that customers know they can trust you and your products; business will follow.
These are by no means the conventional, big-box, utility light. But, they are priced better than them.
My recommendations? By these now before some Harvard-trained business mogul buys out the company and tanks it.

I especially liked the ability to adjust the cables to achieve the best lighting in the spaces they were installed. Super easy to hang and adjust.
My only complaint about these lights is they are not linkable. As such I had to install several outlet boxes in order to supply power. Could have probably modified the fixture but I didn't want to void the warranty or create any electrical hazards. This is why they received 4 stars instead of 5...
Would definitely recommend these fixtures for anyone looking to add light to a large space.
I went with the diffused covers to reduce the chances of light spotting, and it was a success. It's a very evenly spaced glow everywhere, with no shadow lines. I haven't even painted the walls yet, which will makes things even brighter.
Attachment (hanging) via the cables is made very easy with the included hardware (probably want to toss the plastic anchor mind you). If you've ever hung an Ikea clothes hanger knob, this is the same idea. Adjustment for height is very easy up or down should you change your mind, or screw up a bit either way.
My only improvement to these, would be to have a simple 2 pole socket on the end opposite the cord. Thus allowing these to be more easily daisy chained. As it is, I've had to run a lot more outlets to plug them into.
Regardless, I would highly recommend these.
- Each light has it's own individual switch on the cord.
- Lights cannot be linked together.
- Very bright light.
- Very lightweight and easy to install, plug only.
- It is not possible to hardwire these lights unless you have a octagon box in your ceiling/wall.
Having checked the lumens for the flourescents I purchased 8 Hyperselect fixtures. The were very easy to install, helped greatly by their light weight, and easy to move if so desired. We were able to place the fixtures where we work and ended up with better lighting overall with just 7 of the fixtures installed. They start perfectly in cold weather. Two minor issues: once you have raised the lights on the wire hangers you can't lower them again; the instructions could be clearer.
Overall this represents a very big difference in electricity costs to light our workshop. Now we'll see how long they last at their present lumen output.
