Update: Kingston replaced the mic for free under warranty. They sent it with 2 day shipping and didn't even require me to send the broken part back. This was an example of great customer service and I can say that I am now very pleased overall with this purchase.
I'll say the exterior of the wiring is great. It is braided and tougher than many wired headphones. However, I opened up the inside of the headphones - the side where the wire enters the ear muff - and I'm disappointed to report these have the oh-so-typical Chinese "use the thinnest possible wiring" philosophy. I don't know what gauge they are, but I'd guess 30 or 32. Calling it 28 gauge would be generous. If you know anything about electrical wiring, you know that is super thin. The soldering is not too bad, but it suffers from the problem created anytime you solder very thin wire: it's very easy for it to become dislodged and fall off. Though that was not the case with my headphones.
My headphones' failure is due to the thin wires themselves. When these thin wires get moved around day after day - even in a nice appearing, braided conduit - they are going to fail sooner or later. The solution Kingston should adopt is using thicker wires. It would cost them pennies more per headset. Perhaps $1 maximum from upgrading the conduit, etc. in addition to the wires themselves. That is one of the differences with "higher end" headphones (which this item is not).
The saving grace of this product, besides its performance, is the 2-year warranty from Kingston.
I don't know where I buy this, but I bought this on the assumption if my mic dies, i can replace it, and since i have this problem with headsets, this is why I went big on a top rated item.
All-in-all, with or without the warranty the headset itself is great, but I am finding it troubling in the senses to not be able to part it out and buy replacements. however, no big deal, awesome warranty.
For fan service, I have to say - The box it came in was the cherry on top of the experience I keep it and house items in it, currently as again i chalk this to fan service, it was truly wonderful to be shipped a box that had a solution in it, and provided me an actual awesome extra packaging box for like probably some sustained use of 1-3 years. So, Yeah, I know that's at length but truly impressive to buy something today and have it shipped and come in a container that was actually not something to dispose of.
The headset itself rocks some awesome quality in sound. My only gripe is with the speaker head comforters that while can go on easily, often fall off. I also would like to make a point I sleep in these, so my use of them are quite heavy. So it's been roughly 1-3 months, with no problems, typically I can kill a logitech headset in approximately four days with the same use. So this item is clearly winning out for me, the only other issue I've had was cable extension, I am using a logitech usb extension + a usb with mm audio jacks for sound/microphone. the cable that came with the device is great, but length is an issue if you are into actually using your headset and having some mobility, ie: reaching over here for this while you are gaming, etc.
So, in short, the product is fabulous, I still do wish I could purchase extra microphones before one ends up in a bowl of cereal or something, since I would equate this feature to a modern day tooth brush, I want to replace the brush, not the entire unit that scrubs my teeth with ultrasonic waves. So, in the line of thought, If applicable I would even like this unit to ship with spares. All that said, that's a high demand, but at the end of the day, if my microphone breaks sure I can wire up and jerry rig a microphone in there but.... defeatist, I suppose I should be more hopeful of my warranty but all-in-all even with a 5 day SLA, that's like 2 weeks, for something I could have replaced in 30seconds.
The quality of the chord is good, and with the logitech usb hub, my hub for the volume for this unit safely "Breaks off" in the event of any pulling, preventing a lot of strain on the unit itself, which is nice, as i have have had incidents in the past of the copper wiring requiring soldering in the middle of the unit for all sorts of various real world incidents.
All things considered, I would genuinely recommend if you buy this product to find the usb extension of your choice as the chord itself is maybe six feet on its own. And having the break off methodology of preventing an incident, is a life saver.
So Thank you hyper X, honestly, I couldn't be happier, also worthy of note is that the headset itself while on can prevent somewhere between 20-30decibels, I'd rate it for a vacuum cleaner, but only with higher than regular volume use. So, again, Very happy in more or less every way with this unit.
There is a VERY LONG cable that use the dual mic/audio adapters on the end of it. If you want to use it on your console, you put an adapter on the end of that, which means you have a VERY LONG audio cable going from your headphone down to your controller.
The volume/mute switch is way down at the end of that long cable, so it's a hassle trying to get to it to mute in a hurry. It's like they took headphones that weren't even designed with volume/mute in mind and just slapped an adapter on the end of it. That's literally what this is.
I don't recommend these headphones for anyone who plays on consoles even though they work.
Top international reviews
Like most I need a set of headphones, as you can imagine bombs dropping and guns flying in BF4 in the middle of the night often left you on the angry side of people in the morning, step in the Hyper X Cloud.
Packaging and contents
Okay it sounds weird to talk about packaging, but this product by far is the nicest unboxing I have ever done. That includes various GPU’s monitors CPU’s etc, the attention to detail Kingston applied to this was beyond amazing. A lovely exterior box is adorned with the normal nomenclature with an image on the front and details of the headset on the back. On the inside is a secondary black box embossed with a simple silver Hyperx logo and within amongst the softest foam ever lies your headset with numerous accessories.
In the box in addition to the headset you get, microphone, an airplane adaptor, a 3.5mm and mic jack to a single 3.5 mm for phones, extension cable, soft foam cups (in addition to the already installed soft touch leather ones), a lovely travel bag, a headphone controller that doubles up as an extension cable.
Construction and sound
In regards to construction, the headphones are very solidly build, the headband is made of a lovely soft touch material that you can use for hours at a time without realising it's still there. I personally prefer the inital leather installed cups as they feel great on the ears and you will bearly feel they are there combined with the headband which takes most of the weight. The cups themselves and the band linking them to the headband are made of a lovely aluminium that feels great to touch. Kingston embroid the leather headband with some colored stitching based on the color you purchase.
The sound for headphones is pretty amazing. it delivers reasonably well across a wide dynamic range and base has a nice kick to it. Gunshots and whatnot sound really great and while not 7.1 per say, I find the sound much nicer then on some 7.1 specific headsets. I find they excel in the lower tones while still offering great mid and high range.
Now I am not an audiophile and primarily use this for gaming and in that respect with most titles I play them with I really enjoy the experience.
The only slight weak aspect of these headsets is the Mic. I believe it's something improved in the cloud 2 and personally I don’t use it alot as I am more in to SP titles like Witcher 3, XCOM, Just cause 3 and what not. But on occasions I use it in BF4 its reasonable.
In Summery, for the price these come in at they are amazing. Everything from the construction, to the sound quality to even the packaging is top notch. Really for the price these are selling at its a great buy. The only weak spot is the included microphone, but its sufficient I would imagine for most. Having said that, if the Hyper X Cloud 2 are within your budget they are likely to be a good buy also and simply a refinement of this amazing product, with what appears to be an improved Mic so would be worth a look.
The design is very sturdy, they have metal connections which make it harder to break than many cheap plastic headphones. The cable is similar to shoelace and has a nice feel to it, it doesn't get tangled at all. The microphone is pretty standard for a gaming headset, not much of an upgrade from my Fatal1ty microphone. The headset is comfortable on my head and I use it for very extended periods of time without any pain or without my ears getting very warm. The sound is clear.
Overall, this is a very nice headset for the price, and if you aren't looking to spend hundreds of pounds on a headset, then this is the headset to go for.
Update: After one year and four months, the cable leading into the control box broke. HyperX support sent a replacement control box even though it was listed as out of stock on their website. Very quick response!
Update 2: After one year and ten months, the main cable broke as a result of wear and tear. I am replacing it with the Arctic Pro which has a removable cable which can be replaced should it break. Still happy with purchasing the HyperX clouds. They lasted around the same time as most of the headphones that I use do.
I went for these after looking at reviews and torn between open / closed and not wanting to pay a fortune found that the price was ok @ under £50 at time of writing.
I chose these over the v2s mainly because of that.
As I understand it in reviews the mic (which often comes out fairly poor on gaming sets) is pretty good on these and I did give it a go before reverting to my standalone. I can say that it is clear, crisp and more than adequate. The headphones are too bassy for my tastes though and I hoped they would be a bit better in the mids and trebles. Not bad for the price I paid but could be better, however, a lot of you out there want the bass for gaming so it may be fine for you.
Separation is what you'd expect with closed headphones, there doesn't seem to be much choice at this price and it's one of those choices one has to make depending on where you are and who you might disturb if you had open phones but I can tell what direction footsteps are coming from so they are ok for me.
All in all I can say I'm not displeased with these however, you should bear in mind that this is the first set I've bought so I have little to compare with.
Edit: I am updating this review to 5 stars was 3 previously simply because the support for the warranty was brilliant this was definitely the easiest to get resolved my warranty had around 3 or so months left on it and contacted Kingston gave them virtual receipt and my details and they agreed to send me out a new one to replace the old one at no cost to me (shipping ect) Good company great product brilliant customer support, If you have a problem with your headset please contact them as they have loads of troubleshooting with live chat to guide you through it and if all else fails they are more than happy to help you out with warranty.
FAQ: How long is the warranty? A: 2 years.
They can be comfortably worn for long periods of time - I've had them on for 6+ hour periods many times.
The box contains a number of accessories, including both leather and cloth ear muffs, and 2 cable extensions, 1 of which extends the cables by about 1m, the other extends the cables by another 2m. Even without the extenders the cables of the headset are about 1m in length.
Would happily recommend to friends.
I have owned 3 or 4 budget headsets. Never used any top of the range ones, but this is a beautiful piece of kit.
Comes with connectors and adaptors for all sorts of connections. The packaging, the unit itself and the presentation is beautiful.
Its lightweight, sits comfortably on your head, and doesn't become irritating to wear. after 3 consecutive 8 hour gaming sessions this was not bothering me at all. The mic is detachable, and it comes with it's own built in volume control. The cable is nice and long, so you can sit back and watch movies from a distance with it. It even comes with extension cables.
Everyone I have spoken to says they can hear me nice and clearly, and I never have trouble distinguishing game and chat audio.
100% would recommend, crazy good for the price.
I read every review going, all the different brands. watched loads of videos & gave up totally! I happen to know a tech reveiwer who wrights for a large UK group so I spoke to them, at first I was still unsure & felt worried.
Oh my word though! No really! The mic is amazingly clear & not in the way. As for sound, the only way to put this is think of the first time you heard your favorite song.... now imagen feeling like you are listening to it for the first time all over again feeling like you are with them recording it! in game it's like being able to have super hearing
The extra's for different use cases are really good, the little bag for them is very nice & the box is overly impressive but totally matches the product.
If I am ever asked these are my recommendation!
I'm not going to judge these on their music performance as they're not meant for that. all be it, they are far better than most other 'gaming' headphones at a similar price range for music.
Never really been a fan of gaming headsets before as they tend to be cheap headphones with the bass cranked up as much as possible and a crappy mic stuck on. But these have changed my opinion, well at least for HyperX.
The in-game performance is great, with the bass being strong yet not overpowering, with everything sounding clear and crisp even at the peak of battle. A lot of other headsets focus way too much on the bass, completely forgetting the mids and highs, luckily that is not the case here, with strong, punchy lows, clear mids and decent highs.
The mic is good, not amazing but good. This isn't a problem, as people will still be able to understand you clearly, but there might be a little bit of leakage from the headset that gets picked up. The mic is detachable which is a feature I love as if you wanted to you can use them as a normal pair of headphones, as you can look a little silly walking around in public with a big ol' mic sticking out your headphones.
The build quality is great with a mix of aluminium, soft plastic and leather (synthetic) around the softly padded head band. Even though most of the build is plastic it is a very high quality plastic which is soft to the touch, making it feel like a very premium product. The main cable is not detachable but is braided so I can't complain, but the extension cable is not braided, so don't be to rough with them if using that. The main cable splits into audio and microphone (both 3.5mm) but there is an adapter provided so you can still use them on devices with only one 3.5mm port. To add they are quite light, making them perfect for long gaming sessions. They come with a choice of leather ear pads or velour, it's nice to have a choice but most people will find the velour pads will make their ears too warm after a while.
Tl;dr - Good pair of headphones, good for both gaming and music, alright mic, great design and comfy.
So if your still reading this (hopefully you are) I would say despite having to send mine back it doesn't make this a bad product (pet hate people giving a product one star just bcus there's might become faulty) bcus the sound quality is really good and if your playing games/listening to music alone late at night then this headset would be a great purchase especially at this price point, but if you're a gamer and want to talk to people (well your friends lol) I would give this a miss and not bcus my mic was faulty but bcus there's no mic monitoring something which I never considered before using the HyperX's. So 3 stars awarded neither hated them or loved them but I really really wanted to love these due to all comments and positive reviews,,, one very last thought on headsets after using Turtle Beaches, Hyper ZX's and now Polk's I've come to believe it's all done to your own personal preference when it comes to sound and headsets, if you can try before you buy :-)
Update: About 5 months later (March 2018) the volume control box died. Very disappointing.
The cable of the headset tangles daily and is quite annoying. Bits of the cable are frayed and audio only works in one ear until i fiddle with how the jack is plugged in.
Warranty does not cover this. It was not used excessively, and was looked after. Cable and volume control box were of poor quality unfortunately.
You're better off buying a pair of headphones with a better build quality, and a removable cable, and buying a separate mic.
A truly amazing headset. They are still working flawlessly without issues after 4 years. I cannot compare these to previous headsets, as these are actually my first pair, but from what people have told me who own their own headsets and have tried these, they are pretty damn good, especially for the price.
The build quality is excellent all-round, with anodised aluminium, coated plastic and braided cables. The fact that they have lasted four years now without any signs of wear, with very frequent use is a testament to their quality.
They transformed my audio experience with my PC, and I use them for music, gaming, watching films, videos, and most other audio related PC tasks :D I use them a lot. I should also mention they are extremely comfortable, and wearing them for many hours at a time doesn't make my ears any worse for wear. The risk is forgetting you're wearing them and walking away with them on.
The leather cups are not great for hot weather, and they almost completely cancel out exterior noise. The velour cups are very nice, don't sweat as much, and don't cancel out as much exterior noise. Both are very comfortable.
The mic has been perfectly adequate for talking with friends, and occasionally recording some audio. It's better than most included/onboard mics.
The accessories included are excellent, and the mesh bag provided is great. The quality of the packaging and presentation was also excellent, though why that should matter that much I have no idea, apart from protecting the product.
So, overall, I love these headphones. Great sound quality, very comfortable, and they have lasted much longer than most tech that I buy, and I'm glad I bought them. Hopefully they will last a while longer.

- For the price the quality is staggering!
- The microphone quality is crystal clear though a bit quiet but I easily fixed this in the windows software.
- Microphone arm is great quality and very flexible
- The leatherette earcups are extremely soft and just lovely!
- Sound quality through the headset is good with great balance, mids are clear and the bass is present but not overpowering or muddy. Highs are a little quiet.
- Medium to Lightweight feel
- Great inclusions!
- Soft mesh bag for carrying
- Audiobox cable that also acts as an extension
- Extension cable without audiobox (using both you get an immensely long wire)
- Velour earcups incase you dont like the fabulous leatherette ones
- Adapter for use with phones, tablets, ps4 and other things
- Weird adapter thing that I still haven't worked out its use but its there and someone might make use of it?
- Your ears will get hot and uncomfortable after a couple hours, for me it was around 4 hours I had to take a small break. I understand that this is a problem with most over ear headsets though and I think this headset isn't as susceptible to this issue as many others are.
- when using the audiobox cable with the headset the audiobox is very far away from the headset which kinda makes it useless though I got round this by using the extension cable too and tying up the slack wire between the headset and the audiobox.
Worth every single penny, I have tested it with my onboard sound and my Xondar dg Obviously the sound is much richer from the Xonar soundcard but both are respectable.
The xonar Dg comes with a 3 stage headphone Amp built in, All of my previous headsets have been unable to use all three modes as it simply produced too much volume for the headsets/
The Hyperx is amazing in this respect, I boost the bass slightly in my EQ settings and raise the trebble just a pinch and they stiff refuse to let go. no distortion at all and thats at ridiculous volumes. I mean you can feel the vibrations on the side of your skull for god sake,
equally suitable for listening to a variety of audio and gaming.
Can't comment on the microphone as i have yet to use it but I have owned these a month or more now and am very please I spent that little bit extra.
Well built, won't break at the headphone cup like the last 3 pairs I owned thanks to the metal construction, they are comfy and come with fantastic packaging and extras, ++
