If you are like me and have a hard time figuring out the bulb dimensions, the number following the letters (i.e. PAR38) divided by 8 is the bulb face dimensions. In other words, a BR30 has a bulb face of 3.75 inches (30 divided by 8). A PAR38 such as these are 4.75" across the bulb face. Need to be considerate of that to ensure the bulb will fit nicely if you are installing L.E.D. lights in a recessed can.
In closing, I am thoroughly pleased with these lights and the price. If they last as long as I expect, I will be tickled. I would definitely recommend Hyperikon to a friend and anyone who asks.
UPDATE 10 MONTHS LATER - One of the bulbs has decided it's too expensive to work. Turn on the kitchen light, it turns on and immediately goes out. Swapped receptacles to see if the condition followed the bulb, it did. Total hours on bulb maybe 1000, estimated hours on $3.00 bulb it replaced that was still working, 10,000+. I hope this was a fluke but ordered four replacements due to cost of commitment. Got the four replacements (reorder) and guess what, same specification, same rating, same package but a "different" projection of light. You can easily determine the odd bulb out. Due to the cost of commitment and the high risk of inconsistency, I'm not as eager to convert the rest of the multi-receptical bulbs in my house....
So, another unexpected update on this. I was contacted a few days ago by another Hyperikon rep who volunteered to either issue a new set of lights or refund the remaining 50% of my purchase price. (I took the latter option since I no longer need any new bulbs.) I'm quite happy with this outcome, so in the interests of fairness, I'm adding another star to my review. I can't in good conscience make this a 5 star review, but I do encourage anyone considering making a purchase from Hyperikon to give their products all reasonable consideration -- as it is obvious to me that the company does stand by their products, and they do take the reviews on Amazon seriously. In my case, I think I just got unlucky and got a bad batch of lights. It happens.
*** Update 11/29/2016:
Since my original purchase, 11 out of 12 lights failed within 1 year or less. Surprisingly, Hyperikon's customer service department contacted me on 11/21/2016 (note that my original purchase was placed on 07/26/2015) and offered me a refund. Now, due to my own laziness and general annoyance, I had long since simply eaten the loss, gotten rid of the failed product, moved on, and bought another product from a different company. So it was a pleasant surprise to be offered a refund unanticipated and unlooked for. As of 11/29/2016, Amazon is processing a 50% refund of my original purchase price -- not what I expected, but still better than what I had before, considering the only effort I had to put in was 10 minutes for a phone call. It's also worth noting that Hyperikon's rep initially offered me a full free replacement, but since I've already spent the money on new lights, the offer wasn't really of use to me. With all of the above in mind, I'm amending my original review and adding 2 stars for the unexpected good customer service.
*** In the interests of full disclosure, the original text of my review from late 2015 is included below:
I'm not happy with these lights. I installed 10 of these throughout my kitchen in recessed housings just about 3 months ago. One bulb has already died, and two more have started flickering, so I expect to lose those soon as well. The bulbs seem to giving off a fair amount of heat - perhaps they aren't really intended for use in recessed housings, and the heat build up is killing them sooner than their expected lifespan. Perhaps I should have done more research before buying them. I'll be looking to replace these with something else.
Update - I've now had 3 out of 12 lights fail within 3 months of purchase. (I bought 3 packs of 4 each.)
Unfortunately, by December 2015, I had already replaced four of the eight bulbs due to internal failures and no longer working. Soon after, three others failed within a couple of months. The last remaining bulb hung out for several more months but finally just died less than a year after installation. These fixtures are used approximately three hours per evening, every other week -- so even a normal incandescent bulb should not have died during this time. Other replacement LED bulbs have lasted significantly longer in these same fixtures as well as CFLs and incandescent bulbs.
These bulbs are extremely low-quality and do not last. I am including a picture of one of the bulbs that I removed from a fixture after it died. Notice the extremely thin metal used for the base of these bulbs and note that the condition it presents is a potential fire hazard.
Do yourself a favor and go to your local hardware store or big box store and purchase their in-house or name brand bulbs. These just aren't worth it.
