Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

A young American mourning the death of a friend travels across Germany. Taking in the sights and sounds of the remote countryside, towns, and villages of this foreign country, Flemming reflects on loss and the meaning of life and art while rediscovering a sense of peace he'd thought was lost forever. Hyperion: A Romance is a novel by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

About the Author

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was born in 1807 in Portland, Maine, and he became a professor of modern languages at Harvard. His most famous narrative poems include The Song of Hiawatha, Paul Reveres Ride, "The Village Blacksmith," "The Wreck of the Hesperus." From his friend Nathaniel Hawthorne, Longfellow got a brief outline of a story from which he composed one of his most favorite poems, 'Evangeline'. The original story had Evangeline wandering about New England in search of her bridegroom. One of the first poets to take the landscape and stories of North America as his subjects, Longfellow became immensely popular all over the world, and he was the first American commemorated in the Poets Corner of Westminster Abbey. He was given honorary degrees at the great universities of Oxford and Cambridge, invited to Windsor by Queen Victoria, and called by request upon the Prince of Wales. He was also chosen a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and of the Spanish Academy. He died on March 24, 1882. --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

1.0 out of 5 stars OCR text recognition gone horribly wrong!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 3, 2023
Almost unreadable. The book was obviously a reprint done by feeding an original copy onto an OCR text recognition software and never proofread before binding and selling. The number of wild errors and misspellings per page are enough to make you want to scream. An example is attached. Longfellow knew, and occasionally used, eight different languages which makes it near impossible for an OCR in English to even have a reasonable chance to translate what it sees. To sell a product like this without even proofreading and correcting it is a very poor business practice in my opinion. I will be not be eager to buy more from this source.
