Product Description

The GOLD Standard in Childbirth Hypnosis - Hypnobabies: Eyes Open Childbirth Hypnosis. Our 5 week Hypnobabies Home Study Course for Expectant Mothers is an *advanced* Childbirth Hypnosis course, and is for women who want to ENJOY their baby's natural birth by using hypnosis to eliminate pain and fear. Designed for moms who cannot attend a Hypnobabies Class or want to study on their own, Hypnobabies provides hypnosis tracks and extensive educational materials to prepare for a much easier and more comfortable birth. Hypnobabies is based on Gerald Kein's Painless Childbirth Program and is extremely successful. It is the only childbirth hypnosis program that teaches you "Eyes Open Childbirth Hypnosis", allowing full mobility during labor *without losing focus*, so you can remain deeply in hypnosis, relaxed and physically comfortable throughout. This enables you to use upright positions for descent and positioning of your baby. Be prepared to learn self-hypnosis techniques to practice on a daily basis until your baby is born, which is such and easy and naturally enjoyable daily routine! Hypnobabies is also a 5 week COMPLETE childbirth education course, with a Nutritional Program, Pre-natal Exercises, Birth Plan, Optimal Fetal Positioning, Avoiding Back Labor, Anatomy and Physiology, Birthing Choices, Comfort and Safety in Pregnancy, Consumer Issues, Staying Healthy and Low Risk, "Change of Plans" hypnosis, and much more. Using your Hypnobabies Workbook, CDs and hypnosis cues, you deeply train your inner mind that contractions in labor are felt as pressure, stretching, pushing and baby movement sensations. Hypnobabies uses the same kind of hypnosis techniques that people employ when preparing for surgery without any medication - Hypno-Anesthesia. Birth Partners learn how to fully and easily support you during labor, although Hypnobabies is also used very successfully by single mothers. You need 5 weeks to complete this course. Enjoy!

I bought this course because I really wanted an unmedicated labor and I needed reassurance and confidence that I could get through it since it was my first child. This course really helped me to feel confident enough to get through the whole thing without any fear whatsoever, but I had no interest in using the Hypnobabies techniques during my labor because it was much easier for me to relax when I didn't listen to anything or anyone.

For confidence, Hypnobabies is great. However, I don't want women to think that the only way they can get the labor they want is with Hypnobabies. In reality, I didn't need to buy this kit in order to avoid an epidural. I don't think it really made my drug-free labor possible, but it may have helped. I followed the course faithfully and practiced regularly, but my labor was not pain-free. Hypnobabies never attempts to tell you that back labor with a posterior baby is pain-free. Instead, it tells you techniques to get the baby turned around. Unfortunately, none of those techniques got my baby turned, even with a doula helping. I don't blame Hypnobabies for this. My baby was just too low to be turned. I can honestly say I felt no pain at all in my belly for the entire 8 hours of my labor, but I felt such strong pressure on my back that the only thing that helped was counterpressure. Luckily I had a good husband and doula to push on my back and knees for 5 hours straight.

My biggest complaint about Hypnobabies is the way the handbook is written. It's extremely unprofessional and I had a hard time taking it seriously. Everything is underlined, asterisked, capitalized, bolded, and exclamation-marked. I almost wished I could write them a letter asking if I could rewrite it for them.

I decided to try Hypnobabies for my second birth because of its "fear clearing" portion. I had fears of pain from my first birth (unmedicated but unsatisfying) that I didn't want to get in the way for my next birth. After I got it and tried the first tracks, I decided that anything that made me feel so relaxed and GOOD was worth doing during pregnancy, even if it didn't work in birth. It is important to understand that Hypnobabies doesn't claim that you will have no pain in birth--it claims to make birth easier and more enjoyable. If you're going to undertake it, it's important to understand that. It does claim that much pain can be minimized or reduced in most birthing situations, and also that there are variations of "normal" that can make it harder to use hypnosis skills, like posterior babies. I decided to hope for a better experience and tried not to let the fear of pain overwhelm me.

The written materials DO have a cartoonish feel with all the caps, bolding, and underlining. I hope this will be corrected soon and improved as much as the recent re-doing of the Hypnobabies site has improved. I do not let that detract from my star rating, though. Much of the information CAN be found in various books, but that it because it is drawing from the quality aspects of many birth education methods and research to present its own summary of childbirth education (which is still pretty comprehensive.) I didn't need the informative parts of the manual much since I had been schooled pretty well in natural birth during my first pregnancy.

I practiced my scripts nearly daily from week 18. I did miss a few days here and there, and worried about things like falling asleep or restless leg while I listened, but I found that it worked well for me!

I had a very painful and difficult labor with my first son. I had taken childbirth class and really prepared, but it was horrible anyway. I tore badly and was very anxious and I think the baby was anxious because of it. Second baby, I chose a home birth with Hypnobabies. It was beyond what I could have imagined. You really do have to commit yourself to Hypnobabies if you go this route. Do not mix it with other methods and make sure your spouse or birth partner or doula is completely involved. My true labor was 5 hours and easy. Even when the baby was being born, I still didn't realize he was even coming right then. I never pushed or anything. I just stayed totally relaxed and let my body do what it needed to do. It was peaceful and very quiet. My mother was staying upstairs in our house and never knew I was in labor much less labor and birth until after I sent my doula up to tell her I had a baby at 3 am. The baby never cried at birth..just looked around and was totally alert and present. We left the cord attached for about 30 minutes. He always had what he needed and very unceremoniously began to breathe when he was ready. It was really something. My midwife was really amazed as well. She had never seen a Hypnobabies birth and just couldn't believe how easily I birthed the baby and how quickly labor progressed. She only checked me once and I was 5 cm. 45 minutes later, I had a baby. I can't recommend it highly enough. Oh...and my second was a full pound bigger than my first and I didn't have any tears at all. Being relaxed makes a HUGE difference. If you're pregnant...just get it and do it. Truly awesome.
