This book is simple and delightful. It’s for ages 4-8 and the odds are good your little one will want to read it over and over again. Yup, it’s one of those. The whimsical pictures by illustrator Pete Reynolds make exploring each new page a fun discovery, and author Susan Verde infuses the book with cheerfulness.
I have no doubt the author had great intentions, and if you’re planning to use this as a discussion guide with older children, I see it being good for that purpose. My intention was to read my kids a bedtime story about empathy, and this was not good for that.
I Am Yoga, the first in the series, helped me to gain an understanding of yoga which had previously eluded me - and I love yoga! Included in the back are a series of simple yoga poses for children. Since kids are apt to skip the fine print, you might want to point this out to your young reader.
I am Peace: A Book of Mindfulness hit home. The opening words "There are times when I worry about what might happen next and what happened before" seem to define my every moment. It's not so much that I'm a worrier as that the mind always seems to be engaged in mulling over past events and preparing for what's next; living in the moment is not exactly our culture's strong suit. Hence the need for Mindfulness. There is a lovely guided meditation in the back of the book. Again, if your young reader doesn't want to read the fine print, consider reading it to her.
I am Human: A Book of Empathy teaches the reader about kindness towards others. Oddly missing in the text is acknowledgement that others are human, too. I mean, of course they are. But I (the reader) am clearly not the only one who makes mistakes. The fine print in the back of the book includes a loving-kindness meditation which I put to immediate use, reminded once again that the reason we forgive is to give ourselves peace of mind.
I highly recommend this smart serenity-inducing series.

I would not necessary put on the cover: A book of Empathy.
4 stars because mine arrived damaged.
It is an important book that reminds us to be kind, and tells us it's okay when we aren't perfect... more parents need to read this to their children
