It is time.
It is time to free our voice.
To speak is a revolution.
For too long, through the most intimate acts of erasure, women have been silenced. Now, women everywhere are breaking through the limits placed on us by family, society, and tradition. To find our voices. To make space for ourselves in this world. Now is the moment to reclaim what was once lost, stolen, forsaken, or abandoned.
I Am Yours is about my fight to protect and free my voice from those who have sought to silence me, for the sake of creating a world where all voices are welcome and respected. Because the voice, without intimacy, will atrophy. We’re in this together. You are mine, and I am yours.

About the author

Reema Zaman is an award-winning writer, speaker, actress, and author of the critically acclaimed memoir I AM YOURS. I Am Yours has been adopted into the curriculum of several high schools through an Innovation Grant from the Oregon Board of Education. Reema’s work has appeared in Vogue, Ms., The Guardian, Salon, Guernica, Longreads, Shape, and elsewhere. She was the 2018 Oregon Literary Arts’ Writer of Color Fellow and is currently partnering with the International Rescue Committee and Girls Inc. to serve crucial causes and empower the next generation of leaders. Born in Bangladesh and raised in Thailand, she currently lives in Oregon. As the only Reema Zaman in the world, she is easy to find on social media. I Am Yours is the story of Reema's unwavering fight to protect and free her voice from those who sought to silence her. Beginning in Bangladesh, moving into Thailand, then New York, and finally, Oregon, I Am Yours is an iconic, definitive book on the female, the human, condition. In impossibly gorgeous prose that is at once beautiful and biting, poetic and political, haunting and healing, Reema's personal narrative acts as an uncannily perfect backdrop to ask and answer our most pressing universal questions: Why do we wound each other and ourselves? Where does pain begin and live, in the same spot as love? Why do we oppress and overpower when, beneath pigment, all flesh are the same color? And, in this rapidly changing world, what is authentic equality, integrity, and kindness, and how do we put it into practice, amidst genders, family, and one another?
Above all, what is, and where is, home? In I Am Yours, these queries are explored, traveling between the streets of Dhaka, slums of Bangkok, and glittery film sets of New York City, in a masterly voice that is radically vulnerable, loving, and powerful.

Reema Zaman’s wonderously written memoir is beautifully and painfully realized. Her heart bleeds all through its pages as she details the classic hero’s journey she embarks upon. This book is the story of who she is, how she came to be and who she always was in many ways.
There is so much love throughout this book, it is overwhelming. You have the love of books and words, stories and personal narratives. Love of family, the immediate, the extended and the blended types and the nuance and complexities within that is present. Of course romantic love is also present in the ways you might expect, but also in many ways you don’t. Deeper ways that make you feel like you are in, and experiencing those relationship dynamics yourself. The love of men, the love of powerful women, and love of children are also huge pieces here, as is love for other humans, strangers, expressed through love letters. Love for the city of New York. It’s all here.
Probably one of the most important aspects of love that can be found here though, is that of the love cultivated for oneself. It is something that sometimes is frowned upon, particularly for women who are socially expected to continuously and endlessly give and give to everyone else from from their children, to their partners, to their jobs and in many cases each other, but not to themselves. I see the various women in my life in that narrative thread. Ms. Zaman’s story is a triumph of self-love through the realization of her voice and the sharing of it. And through that, the reader can understand the love radiating from it and begin to examine the notion of a healthy realationship of love to the self and love to the emotion of love.
I would recommend this unique and powerful shared memoir for sure. You might just discover some things about yourself and other people around that you hadn’t recognized before.
Happy Valentine’s Day.
The memoir doesn’t generate fans and followers so much as it adopts all of us and holds us in its embrace. The subtitle “A Shared Memoir” means you are included in its pages...as am I, as is every one who loses themselves in this big-hearted story of radical vulnerability — and opens up enough to return the love.
I leave it to others to describe the contents; I’m here to convey all the feels. “I Am Yours” is like no other memoir out there, and is very much the Bible of #MeToo although the writing predates those headline events. This is an example of the right book at the right time in the right place with the right approach; no angry feminist diatribe, it nonetheless effectively communicates how women continue to be marginalized, commodified and systemically oppressed while at the same time lifting a banner for all of us —women, men, young adults, children— to follow.
This is Zaman’s first book but it won’t be her last. And judging from the commitment expressed within these pages to make the world a better place, she won’t stop until her impact is global and her name a household world.
This is only the beginning. In speaking, in writing, in including us in her narrative, she empowers us, making us all members of her revolution of love, power, and change.
I am Yours is a tale told beautifully. Reema Zaman allows the reader into her skin to feel and experience the emotional rollercoaster of joy, grief, fury, and love. The author’s ease of self-portrayal is breathtakingly unapologetic or self-pitying. Cohesive from beginning to end, Reema Zaman does not gloss over details, and her lyric use of language is an art unto itself. Read this book. Share it. Buy one for a friend. It is a masterful account of female authority over life.

Through frames of growing up in a broken home, birthing mental health illnesses, and facing men who abuse their power, Reema Zaman's resolve to rise and unite with her truth remains constant.
With her poetic and sharp prose, she makes you viscerally feel each moment she arrests you in.
From her orthodox household in Bangladesh to the elite and murky sides of Thailand; from cutthroat, glamorous New York to breathtaking Oregon – Zaman's signature strong and tender voice rings loudly through each scene and sentence in the book.
I Am Yours belongs to a genre of its own – 'shared memoir'. I wasn't sure what that meant at first. Upon reading it, I realized that this book is as much a dedication to her readers as it is to her truth. It's a call for them to seek, hold, and love their own truth. To roar in a way only they can, unfettered by the forces in this world that's set on silencing them.
In 300 odd pages, she packs a lifetime's worth of wounds and the antidote to heal them. Reading this book feels like coming home to yourself, to the parts you've always loved and those you are learning to love. The world needs this book the way we need faith, kindness, and love – delivered urgently in one large, lifesaving breath.
