The characters had zero depth Delaney was a "nerd" but only ever referenced Star Wars.. That is not a nerd make. Also a true nerd wouldn't make geek tshirts into halter tops...it was the poorest excuse for a "nerd" and it was obviously just a way to make Delaney have some more character but it was so flat. Also I couldn't stand Delaney's "who me?" befuddled attitute. Like come on girl, (SPOILER) you're telling Mav one minute you're wearing a skirt for easy access and then he asks you into the bathroom and you respond, "why"". Not to mention how sad she would get when Mav had to leave her TO TAKE CARE OF HIS SPECIAL NEEDS SISTER. Delaney truly made this story insufferable for me. While the story wasn't the worst, SHE WAS THE WORST! I seriously could go on...
I feel like Mav had a little more story..he was a little more well rounded. I liked him. However, why did he like Delaney so much? What made him try to get her attention for years? There was no slow burn, it was just...bland. I felt ZERO connection.
I really wanted to like this story but I couldn't get there...not even close. DNF...or could not finish is more like it.
Could this first kiss be the start of something good? Or just a trainwreck waiting to happen?
"Mr. Tall, Blond and Football" (aka Maverick) is what you are always hoping for when it comes to those football player characters. He's kind of full of himself, rightfully so, but also tall, good looking, way talented, uber caring and also quite intelligent, which puts him a step above the average athlete. He doesn't always let you see his many talents, but tends to cover it up with kind of juvenile convos to the ladies.
"If I stood in the romance section, I'd never make it out alive. I'm already irresistible, but put Twilight in my hands and girls will piss themselves."
Then we have Delaney. I would call her a smart introvert. She's got the nerdy chic thing going on with her looks, but she can definitely hold her own when it comes to athletes that think they are the best. She's already dated one and has now sworn off all football players because of his actions with a person that she absolutely despises. But get these two in a room together and their chemistry seems to explode.
...."Two stars in the sky, two souls destined to be together."
I really liked these two characters and the way the story developed. Delaney's ex was handled in a way that I think could have brought more interesting conflict, but I guess that's not what the author needed. The setting and the conflict for Maverick really worked and pulled the audience in and touched on some subjects that many college athletes have to deal with. Delaney I just adored. I like when we get female characters that aren't weak. They are strong and know their worth and do things that are just plain perfect. She was funny, smart, talented and went after what she wanted and supported the people she cared about most.
Overall, this was a sweet and simple sort of college sport romance with a little hurdle for our Hero to overcome. The story is low on angst (besides the horrible history with Maverick's family), heavy on the nerd humor and full of fun and witty banter (by text and in person). I felt the ending went by a little too quickly, but it still flowed well. A quick read that was enjoyable and well-written. A great "weekend/beach read".
Once I started I was hooked. This was a fun sexy read. With a bit of an emotional twist. I loved the dynamic between Delaney and Maverick. Nerdy girl meets jock. I loved Delaney's awkwardness and quirkiness. And even though Maverick is a jock. Never judge a book by it's cover. This was a great read. I DARE YOU TO READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!
Love does not describe how much I enjoyed this book! It was funny, sexy, romantic, & a little sad. All the emotions just pour out of it. The female lead,Delany is sweet and fun. She's like a lot of us, just a slightly nerdy girl who loves her cat, Star Wars, baking, & is looking for someone to love her no matter what. The male lead, Maverick is charming, sexy, a talented athletic who happens to have the same amount of muscles as he does brains. He loves his sister & wants someone to love him who isn't just after him because he is a great football player with the possibility of a fantastic future in the sport and if they happen to like his slightly nerdy love of Star Wars & classic movies that's even better.
Need a little mystery in your life? Want some love in your life? Then this is for you, buttercup!

Maverick is the all-star football player wanted by all. He has a goal in sight and is focused on getting to be a pro and finish out his college career. Although he has some secrets and ones that could smash his dreams if they are ever discovered. He has wanted Delaney ever since he laid eyes on her his first year at college but made a stupid decision and he missed his chance. Now in his final year at college and dealing with his father’s drunken binges and a sister that needs specialist care the last thing he thought he wanted was to get in to a romance but Delaney is now free and this time he’s determined he won’t miss his chance. Maverick is such a great character that you cannot help but fall in love with him, he is kind, protective, smart and oh so hot….
I totally loved Delaney from the first moment you meet her she is a nerdy bookworm with a heart of gold and can definitely be described as quirky. She has an obsession with star wars and a cat called Hans Solo, she’s a feisty independent woman who is recovering from a broken heart after she caught her boyfriend cheating on her with her arch enemy. She has decided that she’s done with athletes especially football players, although one kiss with Maverick still haunts her. She is not exactly miss popular so she’s shocked when Maverick starts showing interest in her but she eventually lets him in and realises not to judge a book by its cover. But will Maverick’s secrets destroy them before they have even begun????
It’s a great read, I loved the film references in this book and the epilogue is perfect.
I dare you was such a pleasant read. It was a great college romance that made me feel good but also brought tears to my eyes.
Delaney is a super nerd that designed her own clothes and she can quote any lines from Star Wars or the Princess Bride!
After a bad break up with a football player, Delaney swore that she would never get involved with any sport dudes … like NEVER!!
“Maverick makes me feel like I might toss aside everything I think about football players and give him a chance.”
However, when Maverick reappears in her life, she can only think about THE kiss and the legend.
“He’s perfection. He’s air. Which I desperately need right now, because I can’t breathe.”
Maverick… I LOVE HIM SO SO MUCH. He is arrogant, witty and so much more. The way he cares about his sister and his family, his devotion to his sister made me fall hard for him. He is the perfect package and the more Delaney gets to know him the more she realised that he is more than this hot sexy talented football star.
“We’re connected. Two stars in the black velvet sky. Two ships passing in the night.”
He never forgot the kiss they shared two years ago and he is determined to make Delaney his.
“You’re the one that got away, Delaney, the opportunity I missed.”
However, Maverick has to make choices to support his sister, will he put his career at risk? Can they get their HEA?
Adorable and endearing from beginning to end.
Delaney is super awesome, completely my spirit animal and just makes me so happy. She is the sexy nerdy girl who actually has a spine but has sworn off athletes as things have gone bad in the past.
Maverick is the bad boy athlete we all love to hate! He's arrogant and cocky but waaaaaaaay underneath here, you can actually find a heart.
I don't want to give too much away as I hate spoilers but I will tell you that there is a good amount of angst but not enough to cause you to want to cry. It's got some fairly hot scenes that I enjoy but for me, I just couldn't give it 5 stars as there are just some things that annoy me in books and this one was a trigger for me.
I will probably reread this book because I still enjoyed it!
She is s girl that I wish I could have been, spunky, unique and the fact she embraces it makes her all the more special ! Her individuality and the love of a good dare that brings her out of herself keys her be someone else is adorably !
Start with a kiss of legends and fast forward 2 years and this is where we find ourselves, text messages shared (I live this as gives more insight) pasts and future that could be changed. The friends they have who are worth a mention as they helped shape the story and I can’t wait uk see what Ilsa does with them as this series grow !
I feel I to this book and enjoyed it from start to finish, left wanting more but when are we ever satisfied when a book ends x
