I have to admit that Fist of Awesome can get very repetitive at times, particularly toward the end of the game (post-apocalyptic levels with the Boba Fett bears is almost painful), but the unique sense of humor keeps you playing. Beat-em-ups (games like this, Double Dragon, Final Fight, Streets of Rage, etc.) are repetitive by their very nature, so I can't really hold that against it too much. The pixel-art graphics are charming enough (Fist of Awesome seemed to come out during a time when pixel art was THE way to go for indie games), but those are some pretty big pixels on big tv's. I like them, but there's no accounting for taste.

Controls are generally responsive, especially on the Fire TV version of the game (I always ran into lag issues on the OUYA version, as much as it pains me to say). This is a slower-paced beat-em-up (Tim Burr has no need to hurry, apparently), so that can work against it at times, but ultimately there are enough options with the control scheme to keep it interesting. Oddly enough, despite the repetitive nature of the game, I keep coming back to the Arena Mode. In Arena Mode, you can play as Tim Burr or any number of other characters from the game (or not...Santa Claus is an option) in timed combat. As you play Arena Mode, challenges are issued, which give you extra experience as you complete them (and game time). Once you finish a level, you level-up and get points to make your character more powerful. I don't know what it is about this mode, because on the surface, it seems even more repetitive than the standard game, but there's something about the leveling-up and arcade nature of it that keeps me playing.

This game is simple fun, and beating the game takes a little more than an hour for an average gamer. I love the old 16-bit style and the controls are easy to understand. All and all, a great game. But, when you beat it, their is not much left to do except the arena. It is pretty fun but gets repetitive after a while. I wish you could play the campaign as other characters and get another story line. I still did have a ton of fun with this game, and you should totally get it if you like side scrolling beat em up games like double Dragon. Great game, not much replay value, but you will not regret purchasing it.

Beat 'em ups don't seem to be as common on mobile as they should have been, but Fist of Awesome helps feed my cravings for one, and for the most part, it did them justice. This is a button-masher (er...screen-masher) to the purest degree; you move to an enemy, and beat the everloving crap out of him! The retro-tastic graphical style and excellent music definitely give this game a great flavor, but this would have been a total five-star extravaganza if there was more variety. The enemies all play out the same way, and the game should TMNT-ize the levels by providing level elements that serve as unique obstacles or at least interactive decorations beyond reading or talking to stuff. Other than those things, though, this is a pretty good game, and it's worth your time.

I had higher hopes for this kickstarted darling but really it's just a game that thinks itself cooler and funnier than it really is. It is clear that the developers are very impressed with their work. I however found the game simplistic and shallow. I do like the pixel graphics but they are too much in the style of Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery. That game made it work because the details were smaller. All of the characters in FoA are relatively large and get pretty sloppy looking (especially on anything larger than a 5'' screen). Paid $.99, deleted it two days later.

Well I beat the game in two hours, and again, and again so now I have an honest review to give. For one, let me just put that this is really my kind of game, the storyline, with all its discombobulated twists and turns was full of side jokes and references that, if you have my sense of humor, will understand and snigger at. The overall gameplay is so-so, could be better, and personally, I wanted a bit more action with this story. A sequel maybe? What about Tim's marriage [SPOILER ALERT] Does the army of bears come and redirect their leader for revenge? What if time wasn't completely fixed, and cows become the master species? What if the fist was the bad guy all along, and lured Tim into the fray just so he could take over his brother's army? What if this was all just Obama's fault? What if this review wasn't just a series of hypothetical questions? Play this yourself and see what I'm talking about. Mind the price though.

PS on the very last part, talk to the GIRL, otherwise... I Don't wanna know

First the review of the game

What can I say? Nostalgic !! This game is full of silly story lines, cheesy character names, and the playing style/look of double dragon. If you remember double dragon from snes and remember how much fun you had with that... well then this is a no brainer for you, especially at $2. The controls can be a lil annoying, but once you get used to it not a big deal. All in all, one of the more fun games on the market.

Now to rant about the low end reviews

I read people whining and moaning about graphics.. for those I have two words.... "comeon son"..... the graphics were made that way for a reason, I know you're clueless, so move on this game is obviously not made for you. I read someone whining about how much they love their tiny ass, restrictive ipod.. great go back to that this game and the freedom of doing whatever you want with an android based system aint for you. This aint no gaming console and the games are dirt cheap by comparison. So when you spend $2 don't expect Dead Rising 3, expect game development that costs $2.... and then write a review based on that. I know everyone wants dimonds for free, but lets be realistic that doesn't exist. Stop your whining, take a look at your greedy @ss in the mirror and then stfu. For everyone else, enjoy your gaming experience.
