Andrew W.K. has a mission--to dirty up rock & roll, literally and figuratively. And while that may seem a sizeable task for one man to shoulder, consider that the Michigan-reared screamer has devoted the whole of his debut album I Get Wet to ecstatic celebration of the id. It's a heck of an idea, and it's brought W.K. the fawning adoration of the British press who, after enduring years of ambient art-rock inspired by paranoia about technology (you know who we mean), are rushing to embrace W.K.'s credo that everyone should party till they puke. W.K. stays on theme throughout I Get Wet's 12 frenetic tracks--song titles like the aforementioned "Puke," "It's Time to Party," "Party Hard," and "Fun Night" pretty much make the point. But W.K.'s more-is-more approach holds true of the music too--it's cheesy new wave meets spiky metal but delivered with such self-conscious force that it's almost bubblegum. Think of the gargantuan riffs of "Detroit Rock City" smeared with Flock of Seagulls-style synth while some manic propagandist hollers himself hoarse over top. I Get Wet has one setting--loud--but not since the Stooges has unmitigated hedonism, and just plain headbanging, seemed like a plan. When Andrew WK released I Get Wet the year was 2001 and I would argue it's the Smells like Teens Spirit of the 2000's (or possibly one of the last party albums of the pre 9/11 era) Whatever sound this man was searching for or hoping to convey to the listener it seemed to work (There are almost 400 reviews on Amazon with the overwhelming majority in the positive). At it's core, I Get Wet is nothing fancy and basic power music. But there's a fountain of youth, "the fun never stops" quality found on here. It's the fast, relentless, hard charged nature of so many of these songs that strikes at some primal cord buried in your genes. It's the type of stuff you want playing when you're having friends over to get drunk or when working out at the gym. It's certainly not highbrow or refined in any way. And I felt compelled to write a review for this because it's the type of album I think will never get the credit it deserves by the mainstream music industry. I Get Wet was followed up by The Wolf two years later and while not as intense as his debut release, it's in the same mold as the former. Skip the final albums and appreciate an artist that had the ability to combine rock with piano better than anyone else.

Like millions of other people around the world, I was first introduced to your music via Bethesda's Rage 2 trailers and your performance at E3. Although I watched from home, like the audience members, I was a bit perplexed as I watched. It's rare for a music concert to be involved with a video game. So I really did like the song Ready to Die for its upbeat energy for such a grimm subject. Listening to it, I imagine myself in the company of bandits, in the game still yet to be released next year. When I went to buy the single on the page, I noticed the the album was only a little more and bought the whole thing instead and I am very glad I did. There is not a single song on there that I dislike. So I want to say great job and I'm sorry you and your band didn't get the applause and reaction at E3 that you deserved.

Amazon sent me an email and it was like "how would you rate Andrew W.K. I get Wet (10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)? I was like "do you mean the CD version, or the record version?" I have both. That's how good this album is. If I could play the record version in my car or on my iPod I would, but I can't, so I have the CD version, too. Both are fantastic.

Do you like to party? I do. Do you like to stop worrying about stupid stuff and just focus on having fun in life and enjoying what we have while we have it? Then you will enjoy this album. So dumb it's smart, so smart it will scare you and make you wonder why you've haven't been living hard enough. It's unadulterated and pure. It doesn't worry about what anyone thinks. It is I Get Wet, and you should listen to it and then live it.

I'm not going to start with a bunch of disclaimers about AWK having no talent (BULL) yet I love it anyway... it's just a damn good CD. I haven't found a CD that I can listen to from the first track to the last without having the urge to skip songs since The Descendents put out "Everything Sucks" several years ago.
As for the sound... imagine the Bosstones ditching the horns and having a bloody run-in with Springsteen circa "Born to Run," with a little Europe and Meatloaf thrown in, and some oi style gang vocals to make sure you're singing along and having a good time.
I actually jones for this CD when it's not on sometimes... listen to it a couple times to get my fix, then have to turn it off so I can come down. Good stuff.

If you want depth, this might not be the album for this second in your life. The songs are repetitive songs that you could remember the lyrics while plastered, because if he's said one line of the chorus he's said them all.

Still no complaints from me, sometimes all I want is a fast paced fun party album and this fits the bill.
