Then there was Billy. Billy had carried a torch for Lindy for a thousand years, from the time they were in high school, through college when she was with Jason and then through her breakup with Jason. Billy was persistent, if nothing else, though sometimes I thought he was just Lindy's punching bag. He took the hit though and taught her the things she needed to learn in order to survive in this cruel world.
As the story progresses the author lets you in on the rest of Lindy's life in bits and pieces until you suddenly see the whole picture and understand why Lindy is like she is and at the same time why Billy is so enamored with her. There is something about her that only Billy can understand, calm down and at the same time bring out the best in her. He has a way of making her see herself in a different way than Jason or anyone else ever could. Dare you say that is why he is her soulmate.
I loved this story for the determination of Billy and the perseverance of Lindy. The supporting cast of characters made the story that much more intriguing and enticing. I gave this book five stars because all in all it was a five star read, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention the extensive amount of sex in it. Though some of it was necessary for Lindy to understand that she wasn't undesirable it did become distracting after awhile. I know that is the new adult genre, however, so I let it go. Also, while this story took place in the US all the lingo and terminology was from the UK and many parts of the story left you wondering just exactly where the story was taking place because those of us in the States wouldn't use those terms or speak that way. Those were the only two things I found that just didn't fit into the feel of the story, but felt it was necessary to mention them for those who are hung up by that.
I loved Lindy and Billy's story and didn't need to read the first book, I Found You, to follow it, though I will be going back and reading that one now to better understand Lindy and Jason's story. If you're looking for a well written, gritty, emotional new adult romance then I Need You is going to keep you sucked in and reading late into the night. I give I Need You 5 cups of very hot 'I want you" coffee!
Jane Lark is brilliant at crafting realistic characters and Lindy and Billy were no exception. Like all her characters, they were deep, realistically flawed, and, above all, likable.
Lindy was, for lack of better term, an emotional mess. She was hung up on Jason, stressed out about her mother, and unable to let go of her crippling self-consciousness. She did a lot of growing up over the course of the book, finding her self-confidence and moving on to make her own life. My only issue with her that she occasionally came off as selfish and bitchy. What bothered me the most was how much blame she put on Jason for their breakup and basically everything else that went wrong. It takes two to make a relationship and her actions had just as much impact on their breakup as Jason's. Those traits got better over the course of the book but not quite enough that I stopped being vaguely annoyed with her. Overall, though, I did like her.
Billy was an absolute sweetheart. He had loved Lindy for a long while and finally had the chance to act on it. He truly wanted what was best for her, even if it meant putting her needs before his. The one thing about him that bothered me was that I wish he had held Lindy more accountable for how much she hurt him. But, honestly, I also thought it made him all the sweeter for standing by her no matter what. He was simply adorable and I really liked him.
The romance was great. Billy had loved Lindy for years and Lindy slowly came to the realization that Billy had been the one for her all this time. They were lovely together and had some super hot chemistry. I thought they were wonderful together.
The plot was fast paced and I was engaged the entire way through. The emotions were well portrayed and kept me drawn in. I really enjoyed the story and the ending was lovely.
I Need You was a fantastic New Adult romance that I really enjoyed. Emotional and romantic, it was a lovely read. Romance lovers, this is a book worth checking out.
