soft and silty bottom. I had the expandable shaft extended to the max, for which it is designed, and the shaft snapped. I would like to get a refund, but apparently there is a 30 day satisfaction guarantee. I had mine about 75 days when it broke. Keep doing your research, there are better ball
retrievers out there.

That in itself wouldn’t be a deal breaker because even if you only extend the pole ⅔’s of the way, it’s still longer than most competitors. But the other issue is a deal breaker at least for me. The problem is with how this retreiver works to far the ball. I tried it in a half dozen different ponds on the course yesterday and every time when I tried to grab the ball it would just get pushed down deeper into the soft silty muck and the water would get clouded up so that I couldn’t make a second attempt without waiting for the water to clear up. The way this device works is that you have to place the white plastic cirlce over the ball and when you apply light pressure that inner ring which is spring loaded pops around the call and locks in place, but with soft silty bottoms all it does is push it deeper into the muck and the inner ring and spring never activate to grab the ball
This is the main reason that I am returning this retreiver and instead I’m going to buy one that has a metal claw mechanism that doesn’t require you to place it on top of the ball like this one. With a claw I can position the metal claw vertically and slide it down around the ball within placing any downward pressure on the ball and then I can close the metal claw around the sides of the ball and lift it out of the pond.
The design works. I have pulled balls out of the water at a good distance. If you can see it you can grab it with this. The mechanism is pretty clever. If you miss though and it trips, you have to pull it it out reset the head and try again. It does fit in your golf bag too.
My biggest concern is will this hold up. Be care not to put to much load on the antenna like construction when extended. So far so good but the joints are just like an old car antenna, press fitted so if you bend it you broke it. The is fragile. you really can't bang this around much without breaking something so be careful. Luckily, I found a head cover on the course for another brand and it fits this nicely so it may extend the useful life.
Time will tell but so far so good.
If you are looking for something more heavy duty, then you might consider another maker but this works as advertised.
Kinda stinks because this is the fourth time I ordered it. Funny story...I ordered the 18' 3 times . Reason why I had to reorder? Amazon and the Certified Dealers sent me the wrong length EACH time. You'd think I would have learned my lesson after the second time or maybe the first. But according to an representative, the warehouse was fixing the issue so I should wait to reorder which I did, but lo and behold my 3rd attempt at the 18' came incorrectly. I gave up and settled for the 14' max reach instead.
Finally am able to golf more frequently with the weather warming up but upon the 2nd use it is rendered useless with the spring mechanism coming off and disappearing into the water.
Frustration and product use produced my rating of 2 stars :(

Service from the company has been excellent. No hesitation in recommending this bit of kit to any golfer whose ball refuses to go straight or listen!
