The iH-282 is $100 less expensive and has good reviews. Because of other good reviews and because I'm dealing with Amazon, the last bastion of honor in online sales, I thought I'd give the I-Inc 282 a try.
First I called I-Inc to see if my Dell 1558 could even drive the monitor in 1920x1200 mode. I-Inc customer service was extremely helpful because they could actually answer this question: (yes it can). So I bought the monitor. It arrived very quickly with standard shipping.
Wow! Using the analog SVGA plug, the monitor went into 1920x1200 mode with the notebook before I had a chance to actually try to get it to work. In fact, when I did load the I-Inc drivers, they weren't any better.
The monitor is just as everyone has said. It's bright. No dead pixels (for me at least). I'd read that the monitor wobbles on the stand, and sure enough, I did detect some wobbliness as I was re-arranging the desk. I do very intensive computer work, part-time development, etc. So I'm extremely sensitive. However when I sat down to work, I just type, I don't move furniture. The monitor seems solid enough. I don't think wobbliness will be an issue for me. So therefore I would heartily recommend this monitor. I'm actually excited to sit down and write such a good review.
Having said all that, I now wonder if I might have preferred a monitor with even greater resolution, like 2560x1600. Such monitors cost about 4x as much as this one. That kind of monitor would let me get more full-page windows open on the screen. However I don't know if my eyes would have been good enough to take advantage of the resolution. If I did upgrade, this monitor is still quite a bargain to have around. In any event, these considerations are not the fault of the monitor, it is just general buying advice. This iH282 is really exactly as you would want a 1920x1200 monitor to be. It is a very good value.
Other than that, the display is huge, bright and crisp. I use it for software development and home video processing and find it quite adequate for both. I also know now that I wouldn't want anything bigger. I was hopeful that the built-in speakers wouldn't be as bad as everyone says they are. Yup. They're pretty pathetic, with weak volume and tinny sound.
In summary, at $250 for a 28" monitor, I'm not complaining. It does the job.
Important points: Had one dead pixel upon arrival, I have to TRY to see it to notice, so not important. Was very surprised by the weight, my 19 inch monitor weighs more than this one by a fair margin. The plastic this screen is made with has a cheap feel/look, but the screen itself is top-notch. Nicely packaged. I am happy with this purchase, mostly because it was so cheap. I've had it for 2 months and have no complaints.
UPDATE: About a year into owning this screen, the built in speakers died. Not a big deal since I rarely used them, but just a heads up to any potential buyers.
