Top Customer Reviews
If you want perfection with an ios device you must:
1.use rechargeable AA batteries, or use a power adapter for the pro duo (not included, is 9v, i recomend to buy an original ik multimedia power adapter )
2.pair the pro duo with the lightning-to-usb3-camera-adapter connecting to it through the mini din to usb cable (included inth e pro duo), not the mini din-lightning cable.
All this for charging while using the pro duo. (if you are an ipad pro user i recommend to buy the apple 29w usb-c power adapter and a usb to lightning cable, for fast charge).
You can also connect a powered usb hub to the lightning-to-usb3-camera-adapter and connect the pro duo to it, and you can connect other midi controllers using miniusb-usb cables, or 5pin midi to usb cable (like the roland um one cable) . If you want to avoid midi problems you must connect one by one all the controllers.
I find that the knobs are easy to turn, but I will probably add a friction sticker to mark the dot of the levels.
My use is for interviews/podcast eventually, recording my music hobby.
Voice and Shakuhachi test have been clear and the interface was easy to configure in the multitrack app.
Unboxing: comes with all requisite connecting cables. Though the unit is plastic, it seems well built and weighs next to nothing -- it is mindblowingly portable for what it does. I did NOT find the pin-connectors loose; my cables fit snugly and while short, are sturdy. They appear coated with rubber or similar polymer. Much appreciated was the 'get started' pamphlet - because it included the specs for a power supply (NOT included - the single downside). I quickly found an appropriate PS in my pedal drawer, and plugged in.
The iRig Pro Duo was connected to an iPad Air 2 and was instantly recognized in Auria. I like that the gain knobs are flat - it really cuts down the profile of the unit and is less likely to get accidentally changed by inadvertent contact. I tried multiple permutations (guitar > BIAS > Auria; midi KB > Animoog / iMS-20 > Auria; both of the previous without DAW; etc. etc.) and all were immediately recognized and accommodated. In fact, I'd say that iRig's performance here so far has been true "plug and play," and IMHO that's harder to find than one might think. Bravo.
Sound quality is good - low noise floor, signals are clear. Curiously, the iRig pro has had no latency problems at all -- whatsoever. Hope those aren't famous last words. Phantom power worked just fine for some condenser mic work.
And this was at the heart of my great satisfaction with this product: I didn't have to go to a website, download an app, or really do anything other than plug it in for it to work in the way I wanted. The competitor's product I compared it to was nowhere near as elegant a solution, though it is a fine piece of consumer electronics. Finally, I will say that the free apps iK publishes are quite good, if limited, and hey - they're free.
Last words about the battery / power controversy. I honestly don't know what people's expectations are - and thank previous reviewers for managing mine. For me this is a "half empty or half full?" situation: you can be angry that it eats through batteries, or you can be grateful that if you really need to record 'off the grid,' well, you can (provided you pack enough rechargeable batteries). I was simply very glad that they published the specs for the power supply (which they should have provided anyway) right on the pamphlet (hint: if you have a multi-fx unit, you likely have the appropriate PS). I could see how this would be very frustrating if you're not expecting it - and who knows, perhaps in the future this (and other) unit(s) will be given onboard rechargeable batteries.
If you're hung up about the batteries - can't help you. If you're looking for an excellent interface for your iPad to do simply home recording, I can't recommend this highly enough. I'm impressed.
