First, this model is definitely an improvement over the A4. It's not a life changing improvement but an improvement nonetheless over some important aspects. There are certain things that remained the same and a few things that got worse IMO, but those are very few and might not even matter much to you.
Second, if you are not familiar with how these vacuums work, here are some basic cleaning mode info for this and probably other similar vacuums of this type (all modes are shown in the video):
Auto Mode (press the "Play/Pause" button and it will start to clean automatically, you can also schedule this to run on a daily basis at a specific time)
Manual Mode (you can manually move the vacuum by pressing the 4 directional buttons on the remote control)
Spot Mode (to clean a specific spot, press the "target" button on the remote, and it will keep rotating out in a spiral to clean that area, until it hits an object)
Edge mode (press the button that has the square with an arrow and it will head for the nearest edge or wall and start to clean along the perimeter of your home).
Runs extremely quiet on normal mode, slightly louder on max mode. However, keep in mind that you will need to clean the brushes on a regular basis to maintain the low noise level.
The Virtual Wall works really well. The signal seems to pass through solid objects as well. The vacuum will move in a wave pattern instead of straight like along an invisible straight wall. Also, the Invisible Wall block itself seems to emit a "bubble" so the vacuum will avoid it in a circular shape (you can see this in the video).
Edge mode works better than the A4. It can go through the whole perimeter of my home without going off course. A4 seemed to break course once in a while.
Moves much closer to walls and edges than the A4 does, thereby cleaning the edges near walls and objects much better.
The rotating brush is definitely better on this than on the A4. It is now bristle-less so it doesn't trap dust in the bristles and it's easily washable. Also, it can be taken apart (mostly) to clean the hairs trapped in the rotating mechanism.
HEPA filter now has an additional filter on it for added filtration of dust. the additional filter works so well that barely any dust even gets onto the HEPA filter.
Nice and sleek looking glossy glass surface on top but very easy to see dust on top of it (see pics). Doesn't look very pretty after just one cleaning. Not very appealing, aesthetically. I use a Swiffer duster to clean it once in a while.
Slightly longer run time, quieter operation, very slightly shorter in height but at the same time much heavier compared to the A4, probably due to the glass surface area on top.
Rubber bumper is helpful in protecting furniture but gets dusty easily and very hard to clean dust off. Also not very appealing aesthetically.
There is a vent on the right side that blows air out. Might be used as an exhaust to cool down the internals. However, it is a pretty strong wind so I feel like it might be unintentionally blowing dust around.
The operating time is about the same as the A4, maybe ~30min more, but they both can go for 2-3 hours at a time.
The left bristle brush somehow got caught inside the gap of the bumper and shut off. This never happened on the A4. However, this only happened once and was probably just a freak incident due to the way it hit my low-pile rug.
Still slams into dark colored furniture/objects pretty hard.
Dust bin seems slightly smaller than a4 and still have to be pretty careful when pulling it out to avoid spilling dust everywhere. Also, harder to clean now because it has more edges and surfaces.
This happened only once so far but it had some pretty major trouble going over a certain spot of our bathroom's marble transition strip. The A4 always struggled with this a little bit but it would eventually (after 10 seconds or so) either go over it or just back up and go somewhere else. This model would go over it but get stuck halfway and would be stuck there indefinitely.
Still has trouble with table legs and when chairs are close together around a table. It seems to be trapped in its own endless maze and keeps going around them over and over.
Be sure to clean out the rotating brush regularly. Hair can really get trapped in there (see pic with the hair in my hand), causing the operational noises to be louder.
Compared to A4, the height is maybe 1 or 2mm shorter I think, which could be a good thing depending on your home. For me, it keeps getting trapped under my computer chair due to that slightly shorter height.
Customer service was very helpful and easy to deal with in replacing the defective wheel for my A4. At this moment, I am still awaiting delivery of the part as it does have to ship out from China.
UPDATE 4/5/2017 - I've set a schedule and setup the charging station in a position that seems to work great, though still not as recommended. The A6 finds its way back every time so far. I've also added pictures. One of the A6 in its charging station. Another of the black/white patterned rug I have under my dining room table. This is the rug that the A6 has some problems with, but eventually gets out of and continues on its way vacuuming. The other rug I show with black square patterns actually causes no problems at all for the A6. I do pick up my dining room chairs to make the A6 go through the room easier. I manually kick off the A6 in the morning and it's scheduled for 3:30pm. When I get home, the floor looks really good. Is it perfect? No, but it's sure keeping me from going crazy with my Eureka having to vacuum each night after arriving home from work.
UPDATE 4/12/2017 - I like this robot vacuum so much that I've purchased two more, both for my sisters. I did have a little trouble with my unit today. When I pulled the dust bin I found it was empty. The dirt and hair had not made it into the bin. I quick cleaning of the filters and wipe down of the A6 resolved the issue. I re-ran the floor and everything it picked up was in the dust bin as it should be. A weekly cleaning seems to be the trick and empty the dust bin daily. I kick my A6 on MAX in the morning just before leaving for work and then it's scheduled to run at 3:30pm and done just before I get home from work. Still loving the time it's saving me from having to clean the tile floor each evening.
UPDATE 4/14/2017 - Well my sister in Florida received her A6, let it charge overnight and ran it before going to work. For those that claim it won't pick up sand and dog/cat Hair I have to say you're not following the instructions on how to use the robot or you have a defective one and need to use the warranty service. The final picture is of the dirt, sand, and dog/cat (two of each) hair that the A6 picked up on its first run at her house...and she keeps a clean house so what it found and picked up is very impressive. You can easily see the sand the A6 picked up. She sent the photo with the caption "LOOK!" so she's very pleased with the results. Her floor is tile and wood, very open floor plan, and very large.
Keep the dust bin/filters clean, empty the dust bin after each run, use the MAX suction option on the remote, don’t expect it to pick up on rough or thick carpet, don’t expect it to not jam on shoe strings, wires, and other garbage you didn’t pick up, and most of all don’t expect miracles out of under $300.00 robot vacuum and you’ll be pleased with your purchase.
UPDATE: 02/05/2018 - It's been alomst a year since I purchased Beetles. It's been doing a great job until recently. I hadn't used the vacuum for a few weeks while doing a make over on two back bedrooms and the hall in my house. I didn't want to plug it up with dust from the construction. I had switched it off. When I tried to fire it up, it would back out of the docking station and then shut off. I sent an email to support. They responded in less than 12 hours, asking me to make sure the vacuum was turned on while charging. I checked, and sure enough I had switched it off again for some reason. I switched it on, put it in the docking stations and left it there overnight. The next day I sent it on a cleaning runa and it worked fine. The only other issue I was having is that it sounds like something was lose inside the vacuum. I've done a fair job of cleaning the vacuum, but not a dissasembly type cleaning. I decided to do that today. Oh my Lord, I pulled more dog hair out of all sorts of places that I never thought it would get into. After this major cleaining, Beetles is a happy camper and cleaning like new. I also have expanded Beetles area of cleaning (originally just my kitchen), now Beetles covers my living room carpet, my master bed room, library, and bathroom (all carpet), and my dining room which is tile. I have a Black Lab and two Perinese Labs. Beetles does a nice job taking care of the dirt and hair they put all over the house. I dump the dirt bin and clean the filters after each use - it is always full. I've learned what I can leave on the floor and what I can't. I've also setup barriers to block Beetles from getting caught on furniture that it has trouble with. Is it always perfect in its runs? No. It does get stuck sometimes, but the time it saves me in not having to use a manual vacuum every day is great. I only manually vacuum once a week now, even with the dogs. Learn what it can and can't do, adjust to those situations, and you'll have a great addition to help keep the house clean.
-This thing is super quiet. As in you hardly even know it's running.
-Very slim, easily cleans under my couch, nightstands, chairs.
-Does a great job cleaning on carpet, tile and hardwood. Even after doing a full house clean with our big expensive upright, this thing still found more dirt and pet hair.
-Crazy long battery life. Cleans for well over an hour where the other guys barely made 45 minutes.
-No wifi integration / no ability to add wifi is a negative for smarthome users. There are ways to work around this though.
-Lack of accessories / replacement parts (since this model was just released).
-Smallish bin appears to fill quickly and has to be tilted when removed to be emptied or it will spill all over.
-No US based support or toll free number. Have to call China international number for any assistance.
Overall for the price, I think it is a great device and should be seriously considered by anyone looking to get a robotic vacuum.
