The biggest problem is the big mess it makes all around the surface area. Last night I even tried to weigh down the lid to keep it from sputtering all over my cook top area. I looked quite ridiculous trying to solve this issue. To me it seems like it is cooking too hot and creating a boil. (I was used to simmering rice on the stove top.) Now I'm fed up and am going to see if BB&B will take it back even though I used it about 6x's.
Going back to tried and true method.
1.) water and rice in pot, small amount of oil and salt will help prevent boil overs
2.) bring to boil (4 minutes on high)
3.) turn down to medium-low simmer for 10 minutes with lid on
4.) Turn off stove and let sit for another 10 minutes with lid on. Never stir at any step
Result: perfectly fluffy rice in any amount in any pot.
I am a little suprised the other reviewer complained about the instructions - c'mon, it's a rice maker!! It is like complaining that you bought a new car and it didn't come with instructions on how to fill up the as tank!

Water spills all over the place. Every time I use it I have to set up the area so I can clean it with ease afterwards. It's double the work because of all the mess it makes. Read morePublished 12 months ago by Kathy Pino
I've had mine for about two years. I generally only cook brown rice and the results are predictable; perfect. I cook and eat rice daily, and this unit has held up. Read morePublished 15 months ago by P. M. Adams
This is the worst rice cooker I have ever used. It burns the rice and boils over every time... even when you cook less than one cup of rice! Read morePublished 19 months ago by Aimee
Like a previous reviewer I too bought this at Bed Bath and Beyond for just under $20, used it once as per instructions and was very pleased. Read morePublished 21 months ago by Stephen B
