The first two cups of rice that I made were perfect. Some users at Bed Bath & Beyond complained about the instructions and rice sticking to the bottom of the bowl. So, I read the instructions and the tips & tricks very carefully. I rinsed two cups of rice twice, placed the rice in the cooker bowl, added three and one half cups of water, and let it soak for thirty minutes. Then I put the lid on the bowl, plugged the cooker into an electrical outlet, and turned it on. Twenty minutes later the cooker switched to the warm setting, and fifteen minutes after that I took the rice out of the bowl and none of it stuck to the bottom. As for longevity, I've used it only once so far. But, I expect to get at least the purchase price of $14.99 worth of use out of it.

I don't know if I got a bad machine... but I'm having trouble getting consistent results. I too thought I read all instructions carefully and mine is burning at the bottom. I get better results by adding more liquid than suggested but I can't count on it coming out good.

The biggest problem is the big mess it makes all around the surface area. Last night I even tried to weigh down the lid to keep it from sputtering all over my cook top area. I looked quite ridiculous trying to solve this issue. To me it seems like it is cooking too hot and creating a boil. (I was used to simmering rice on the stove top.) Now I'm fed up and am going to see if BB&B will take it back even though I used it about 6x's.

I love my rice, and have used rice cookers for years. I have had decent luck with cheaper models and decided to try this one. It was a total lemon! The button started popping up halfway through the cooking cycle, and I had to gerry-rig it with a spatula to get it to stay down long enough to finish the rice. So I took that machine back to the store and for experiment's sake, got the same model rice cooker to replace it. Maybe it was just a faulty cooker, and the next one will work? No such luck. Having the same problem with the 2nd machine. I guess I got what I paid for!

Followed the directions to the letter. Inconsistent results with same rice and water, accurate to the ounce. Burned at the bottom, boils over.

Going back to tried and true method.

1.) water and rice in pot, small amount of oil and salt will help prevent boil overs

2.) bring to boil (4 minutes on high)

3.) turn down to medium-low simmer for 10 minutes with lid on

4.) Turn off stove and let sit for another 10 minutes with lid on. Never stir at any step

Result: perfectly fluffy rice in any amount in any pot.

Bought this on a whim at bed bath and beyond last week for 20 bucks. I put for cups of Basmati rice in it, filled it up to the "4" mark on the inner bowl, put the lid on and flipped the switch. 25 minutes later - perfectly cooked rice. Not to starchy and sticky(how it usually gets when i cook it on the stove top). After it was done cooking, the switch clicked to warm mode and just kept the rice warm. pretty much perfect operation.

I am a little suprised the other reviewer complained about the instructions - c'mon, it's a rice maker!! It is like complaining that you bought a new car and it didn't come with instructions on how to fill up the as tank!

Love this product. I've made so many different rices in.. The only thing I suggest is when making rice that might end up sitting the pot for a while, put some olive oil on the bottom as the rice tends to stick if it's sitting on the "Warm" setting for too long, or add some extra water.. The rice cooker is wonderful though. Real time saver.

I bought this rice cooker because my old Hitachi rice cooker finally "gave up the ghost" after 20 years. There are so many very complicated cookers and I just wanted one that I could add rice/water, turn on and there's my rice. The first time I used this cooker I made two cups of rice and in the cooking process it boiled over, made a mess on my counter and I am taking it back to Bed, Bath and Beyobnd for a refund. I should have known that the cheap price was an indication of trouble.
