Product Description

INDIE ARTS: The DVD Magazine is a new format in media which combines the regular features of a magazine with the incredible depth and flexibility of a DVD that you can watch on your TV. Visit artists in their studios as they demonstrate techniques, give us studio tours and talk about their creative processes. There is an Art Gallery segment which is a slide show format set to music where artists can have a solo or group show of their artwork. Also featured are interviews with people with INDIE artist ideas such as starting a street gallery, an art walk, self-publishing a zine or book, interviews with published artists on how to approach a book publisher, how to start an art group are all segments that have been released or are currently in production.

I am now knee deep in the hoopla of Indie Arts! I want to tell everyone what a fine DVDzine it is! Marne Adler is just plain inspirational. The reason I like ATCs is that I can try new things without a huge investment. I don't know how you find these folks or how you capture the spirit of art so well but, wow!, it is really fine art!!!!! --Pam M. Mixed Media Artist

Thank you very much for the courage to follow your idea and dream to create a truly unique zine;--who would have ever thought to do this type of project and then make it come true. Not only that, but you have made it better and better. I love the artist interviews, especially those inside their studios and when they actually show or demo their work. Thank you again. I will always renew my subscription and save all the IndieArt DVDs. --Marylyn B. Mixed Media Artist

I just got my first issue and... OHMYGOSH!!!!!! I can't recommend this DVD magazine enough if you want to jump-start your career, get inspiration from other artists or just enjoy feeling more a part of the community of creativity. You get to see LIVE, unpolished interviews of INCREDIBLE artists who are living the artist life. --Susan S. Mixed Media Artist

If you love interesting conversations about the process of creativity ... this is the DVD for you. It is not a how-to video, nor is it about seeing artists demo their favorite techniques. Instead ... it is like sitting down on a porch swing or visiting an artist's studio and having a wonderful conversation ... filled with stories, struggles, insights and ideas about the creative process.

Yes, the artists do talk about technique ... but the real gems are hidden in those casual asides ... like Jennifer Louden's (author of The Woman's Comfort Book: A Self-Nurturing Guide for Restoring Balance in Your Life) comment about learning as an artist to live with the ugliness we create, the importance of finding and following your own voice, and how to nurture the soul of an idea -- delivered in its original spark. In this 5th issue, the interviews with the staff at Stampington & Company (the publishers of Somerset Studio and more) on the surface are about how to submit and get published in their magazine. But ... if you watch it again, you can see that what you actually are getting is a rare peak into the process of creating visual resources that inspire. And seeing how they do it gives lots of clues to artists who seek to create inspiring works of art.

This was the first issue I purchased. Maybe it was just right timing ... that every interview gave me something I needed to hear. And every time I watch it, something else pops out that deals with some creative challenge I am having. So the DVD has paid for itself several times over ...

If you are an artist don't bother. I thought this was a great idea, and maybe in a year or so it will be. However, on the two Indie Arts DVD's I reviewed. There is lots of talk and little action. I was very disappointed from a visual standpoint.
