It has maintained its accuracy, been over surged, it has been roughly dropped a couple times with no worries, handles reverse current, decent sized screen, good feeling dial, and has durable enough cables. I feel this was an excellent value for what I paid, it is amazing what mass production can do.
With everything off: 0.015 Amps => 200 days to drain (the battery is rated at 75 Ampere hours which is about 3 Ampere days, and 3 Amp days / .015 Amp = 200 days);
with the ignition in the radio position: 0.14 amps => 21 days;
with the dome light on : 1.15 Amps => 2.6 days; And here's where I "bent" the calibration:
with the ignition on: over 10 amps => under 7.2 hours.
Thing is, I forgot to move the red lead from the [V/Ohm/mA] connector to the [DC 10A] connector. The fuse didn't melt, but now the meter reads new alkaline (1.52V) batteries as 1.6V, and 9V batteries as 9.6V. DON'T DO WHAT I DID. When measuring currents that might exceed 200 mA, move the red wire to the 10A connector!
Often I don't seem to have enough hands to hold the meter and both leads. If one of the leads were a little alligator clip that would help sometimes; or if I had a jig to hold batteries of different sizes.
I recommend this product to any Arduino enthusiast as it easily handles any of the Voltage/current requirements for any project I have come across. The only thing to watch out for is the current limits this can take, you can't measure anything above 200 mA for more than 15 seconds. (please correct me if I'm wrong, as I haven't gotten anywhere near this limit)
WARNING -- PUT A COPY OF THE MANUAL IN A SAFE PLACE
When the manual (one sheet of paper printed on both sides) gets lost, I will have trouble remembering how to use this device, so I guess I should find a copy of a manual online and put it in my favorite places. Good advice for any purchaser who might lose things like I do.
I had an analog one, that was hard to read, and the needle would bounce. I finally overloaded it on accident, and figured its time for a new one. This one seemed good enough so I went ahead and bought it.
1. Easy to read numbers
2. Easy to use
3. Has a wrist strap so you aren't fumbling around with it while trying to hold the leads in place
4. From my experience, accurate
1. As mentioned by others, instructions leave a lot to be desired.
I would buy it again or recommend it to someone who tinkers, this obviously isn't a pro grade tool, but it is great for what I use it for, and that is just Hobby things.
