The INNOVA Pro Digital Timing Light is the professional choice for a high quality timing light that will stand up daily shop use. Made from a heavy-duty, ABS, shock proof housing it has a molded boot for extra protection against the engine fan blades and a backlit screen for easier viewing in hard to see places. The slim, rotating barrel offers better aim at the timing mark. The four function digital readout includes tachometer ranges from 249-9,990 RPM, Advance Degrees (2 and 4 cycle) 0-90 degrees, dwell (2-12 cylinders) from 0-180 degrees and voltage from 10-16 volts DC. Features Patented Skip Circuitry Test up to 9,990 RPM and switches from 2-cycle to 4-cycle. This timing light works with most ignition systems (DIS, conventional, electronic and computer controlled systems - domestic and import). The INNOVA Pro Digital Timing Light includes detachable 6-foot leads with inductive pickup and a plastic storage case.

RPM Display which is more important than most shade tree mechanics realize
Build quality is good doesn't feel flimsy but it also doesnt feel super rugged this is a measurement tool, and should be treated like a sensitive instrument
Buttons arent immediately clear what they do, however it never took me more than a minute of button mashing to figure out exactly what I wanted
False Complaints -
Doesn't provide a billion candle light flash power so I can time my engine in the noon day soon without a hood on my car or the shade - This is a totally reasonable request ;)
Isn't rugged enough for me to beat-up door to door salesmen who interupt me timing my car in the garage. This tool will survive a drop from car fender height, but doesnt strike my as strong enough to be thrown around.
If you do a flimsy job of hooking it up to the plug wire you are reading it wont always read it, make sure it is snug, and connect it close to the boot.
All in all a great unit, I was on the fence for 4 or 5 stars, I've owned 4 timing light guns over the years and this has been the best one so far so I went with 5 stars.
The timing flash is not controlled by a trigger - it's a push button below the screen. As a result, about every 10 seconds it shuts off as if it has a Duty-Cycle limiter built-in. This is logical, but a real hassle. With a trigger button, you can simply get the light in position, hit the trigger for a few seconds, and then get the reading. YOU become the duty-cycle limiter. So the lack of a trigger button is a BIG disadvantage, in my opinion.
In addition, the light would sometimes skip flashes. I'm not sure why it did this. I tried this light on my son's '89 Iroc-z, and my daughter's 2006 Buick LaCrosse. The LaCrosse has DIS, but the manual for this light says it's supposed to work with DIS.
I mailed this back for a refund. This is my first experience with INNOVA products, and it's most likely my last.
To eliminate the spark plug as the problem as their website implies, I used my old Actron timing light from 1993 (doesn't have the timing degrees or rpm) which works like a champ. I also picked up a Harbor Freight Xenon Timing Light this holiday season which includes timing degree adjustment and it also works fine with my ignition. I discovered that the Harbor Freight timing light uses the same 4 prong harmless connection. To eliminate the harness being the issue, I tried the HF timing light with the 3595 harness and sure enough, it works fine. I then tried the Harbor Freight harness with the 3568 timing light and for about 15 seconds it was working, but then the flashing went erratic. I'm going to try this 3568 on a buddy's car when the weather gets better before I toss it in the trash, at which point I'll revise my review to 1 star.
I will most likely replace this with the next model up 5568, though I will never need the dwell option the back-light will be a nice addition though at the time I wasn't going to pay $40 for backlight feature, I will pay $40 more if the timing light will last 5+ years. I will also consider a digital Actron though the Craftsman version seems to get bad reviews. The other brand timing lights are hit or miss, it appears some brands are just rebranded versions of either the Innova or Actron models. For example the Craftsman Digital timing light controls and wire harness is a dead ringer for the Actron digital timing light and the Matco timing light looks like a dead ringer of the Innova 5568.
I like the ability to offset the spark flashing with the buttons. For example if my engine is at 12' advance when the light flashes. I can set the Innova to 12 degrees offset on the display and the light will flash at 0 degrees on my balancer dial. This is great because the dial does not show up to my total advance of 32 degrees.
Its rpm readout also helped me to set my carb idle speed and idle afr in combination with my vacuum gauge.
It gets the rpm from the number 1 spark signal. It must have a timer built in to know how many revolutions per minute. Unfortunately I do not have a separate rpm gauge to verify the Innova is reading correct rpm. I assume it is.
Good quality, seems like it will last me a long time.
Top international reviews
I would recommend anyone to get this.
