Insanity: The Asylum is the "sequel" to Insanity, and it pushes you hard, further, deeper in ways that the original Insanity workout wasn't meant to do. I'm going to discuss what to expect in this DVD series, then tell you a little about my results. To give you some perspective, I'm almost 40, and only 2.5 months ago, weighed more than I ever had before (222 pounds). I'm pretty short, so I looked like a man-dumpling. I did insanity (all 63 days, never missed a workout), lost 22 pounds, and then was looking for the next thing to help me keep losing. Fortune struck, and this set came out at just the right time. I segued directly into this series. Here's the story.

The DVD set iself comes with six DVD's, which includes I think 8 videos (the Fit Test, Speed and Agility, Strength, Vertical Plyo, Back to Core, Game Day, Overtime, and Relief). It also comes with a nifty wall calendar which I gleefully mark off each day (it tells you what to do each day). It also has schedules for how to combine it with Insanity and how to combine it with p90X for those who have completely lost their marbles and wish to push themselves to olympic like levels. It comes with a "speed rope"--really, just a jump rope, an "agility ladder"--a ladder like contraption made of sturdy plastic rungs and nylon cords. More on it later. My set came with two elastic resistance bands (a red, heavy duty one for legs, and a green, still strong but not quite as resistant one for arms and back). The deluxe package comes with some other goodies. But goodies are just goodies--the important thing is what's on the DVD's and the determination you bring to it.

I found Insanity the Asylum to be a lot tougher than the other Beachbody products. (I've done P90X, P90X Plus, Chalean Extreme, Insanity and RevAbs.) For example, halfway through the Vertical Plyo workout (THE most difficult, in my opinion), I'm usually longing for Plyo X or regular Insanity. I would rate the Game Day workout the single best workout in the entire Beachbody family of products. You go from sport to sport to sport and the time flies by. Twice I yelled at Shaun T "you've got to be kidding!" After Game Day, I tried to do Overtime (a 25 minute add-on), but was too worn out.

I can't get the hang of jumping rope (plus my ceiling is too low), so I just follow the gal who's not using a rope either. A few other exercises I can't do very well, so I improvise.

I like all the Beachbody instructors, but Shaun T is my favorite. He's all business and very motivating. He does move from one exercise to the next very quickly, so you need to pay attention and press "pause" when necessary. He has some great lines. My favorite is, "If your 30 second break turns out to be only 10 seconds, that's your problem."

I recommend this product very highly. I'm a male, 53 years old.

I am a 41 year old female who has always worked out hard and had a very good body. My diet isn't the greatest but I never had any issues with weight. Well, about a year ago, that all changed. The weight started piling on...I gained 10 lbs and a full dress size. But I hadn't made any other changes (same workouts and diet) so I was very frustrated. I am a Beach Body workout die-hard...had already done Turbofire, Chalean Extreme, the original Isanity, T25, etc. But I was still gaining weight! What the heck?! Well I decided to get "serious" about a month ago and purchased Insanity the Asylum. Oh momma!! I have one week left but my body is coming back! I am able to wear things I haven't worn in over a year! After only 3 weeks!! This workout is so incredible, I can't say enough about it. It will push you past your limits but you just do what you can do. I can't always keep up with the people in the video but the progress I have made in only 3 weeks is so rewarding. Can't wait to do the hybrid with the original Insanity next. Love, love, love me some Shaun T!!

The first insanity videos that came out focused more on trying to get you to lose that fat that is so hard to get rid of. Insanity asylum, in my opinion, is focused more on coordination and trying to help you become that athlete you always wanted to be. I am 5'11, 207lbs. and in 3 weeks i am at 196lbs. It is not easy at all, but the videos are fun. My fav is the strength video which is a combination of cross training and weight lifting.
