1. It wasn't nearly long enough. I read it in about four hours and was ready for more.
2. Sometimes the transitions at the end of chapters were so cheesy they caused me very nearly physical pain. However, as the story telling is mostly pretty excellent, the story and characters are engaging, and the there is fantastic action and some humor, I will forgive these small negatives. Since the genre is pretty over-run with similar tropes, I will cut the author some slack.
The team goes to Vietnam to find cure for a deadly disease. While trying to find the cure, they have to deal with the threat of the disease striking them down, two different military forces and something that none would expect.
The chess team characters are amazing. Each one has a different background and different personality. But they are all the best at what they do.
Instinct is technically the third book in the Jack Sigler Thrillers, but it was released second.
POTUS is struck down not by a bullet, but by a deadly strain of some engineered genetic disease. Those in the know believe there is a cure, but it can only be found deep in the jungles of Vietnam, and there's only one team with the potential of a successful retrieval-Chess Team. Led by our hero, Jack (callsign King) the team goes deep into the Vietnamese Jungle in search of the elusive cure.
There are so many twists and turns, it's impossible to even explain them all. When my 19 year old asked me what the book was about, all I could think to say was a lot of crazy stuff goes down! That's how wild this book was, and yet Robinson keeps it easy to follow. NOT simplistic mind you, but understandable, and with so much going on, that's how a book like this needs to be.
I have read a lot of action adventure, and sometimes an author gets too caught up in the explosions for us to truly follow the writing adeptly, not so here, and that's why I'm such a big fan of Robinson's Sigler's books.
Eagerly awaiting the next installment!
Re-read (or listened to through Audible) 23/04/2013. If anything, the second time through was even better. Noting my review above, listening to the book this time through, it was soooo obvious who Deep Blue was, but hey, hindsight is a lovely thing. Jeffrey Kafer's narration truly bring already amazing characters to life in a way that almost makes me prefer listening to reading. Can't wait to start Threshold!
