Review

I've mentioned before about this author... she is compared to Harry Potter or Twilight, and while I agree the genres are similar, the writing has a darker undertone and her protagonists usually have much more depth. -- Candy's Raves

If you'd told me two years ago that I'd be reading books that were not only young adult, but full of paranormal characters, I'd have called you crazy. But I got sucked in ... Now I'm hooked. Integration has only set the hook deeper. -- BigAl's Books & Pals

If you'd told me two years ago that I'd be reading books that were not only young adult, but full of paranormal characters, I'd have called you crazy. But I got sucked in by reading the first of Imogen Rose's Portal series, which convinced me young adult didn't mean a grandparent was too old to enjoy it. It snuck in a small dose of the paranormal, so I was open to giving it a try when she started a series that was definitely paranormal. Now I'm hooked. Integration has only set the hook deeper.

The Bonfire Academy series is a prequel to The Bonfire Chronicles, which currently has only one book, Faustine. Integration bridges the time from the end of Initiation to the start of Faustine. The focus is largely on Cordelia, although many of the students are returning, including one in particular who generates much of the book's conflict. Some new characters also make their first appearances and shake things up.

I'm always impressed by Rose's ability to introduce and integrate new characters in an ongoing series and to craft an engrossing story, which is aptly demonstrated here. But what struck me as I was reflecting on Integration was that she's done a first class job of world building without me realizing it. When I think of a typical book in the fantasy or science fiction genres, I expect a large part of that will be describing a world that is much different than anything in real life, while having enough aspects of the real world for us to be able to relate. While Rose's world exists on the same planet we live on and sometimes her characters visit that world, I realized that what she has done with the Bonfire Academy series is created a world that is just as foreign to the world I live in as a story taking place on Planet X. None of the characters are 100% human.

A great follow up to the first book Initiation. I honestly love Cordelia, she is a princess who is beautiful and has so much going on for herself, and oh yeah she changes into a monsterous looking demon who has pus oozing out of her. No big deal..

Bonfire isn't a normal school. Its a school for a select few paranormal creatures, and it helps them migrate into the human world without causing problems and how to interact with other creatures. When I first read Initiation I really wasn't sure I was going to like Cordelia, she didn't seem like a character I could relate too, but I was so wrong. As soon as she took on being Faustine's mentor she seemed to grow in my eyes and I loved her loyalness. Now we all know me I love my books to have lots of romance, but in this series I love seeing how close Cordelia and Faustine are. There is some romance but the 2 girls and all the crazyness that happens to them is really more the main focus.

Another awesome thing about this book that if you like YA but kinda get burned out on it this series is like right in the middle. Its not too YA but not Adult either.

I am eagerly waiting for book 3 after this books ending. It was a major cliffhanger. I am not complaining but man I need the next book now. This series is great. I love all the action, the mystery and there is always a surprise thrown in there. Its a series any paranormal fan will want to check out!

Omgoosh this second installment had me beside myself,chaos begins to unfold in the school people are missing or acting strange.
Riddles and rhymes being left no one trusts no one and it's a rule all the paranormals live by,for if they do not it could be the one thing that kills them!
Imogen rose is a brilliant author that has created a school of paranormal beings all with different roles to play but the most interesting thing Is how there are paranormal beings running the world in this story and it's written and blended so well I would love to see it as a movie or tv show.
The most exciting thing for me about this series is that it blends in with the portal series by Imogen and you see character's showing up in both books or you have read a scene that you know has played out in another book but your getting a hint at the back scenes of it.
Eeeeeeeek it's so brilliant and exciting and i just want more from this magical author!

UM WOW...JUST WOW!!! This series had gotten me hooked! I have not been able to put it down and I am so glad that I started reading these when the next is already out. Suspense, murder, plotting, scheming, possession, there are so many twist, turns, and events going on that just keeps you involved in this book. Trust no one is one of the rules of Bonfire Academy, for a very good reason.
Imogen Rose brings you into a different world of the paranormal than you would typically expect.
Cordelia is back and protective of Faustine. Quinn does a disappearing act and worries the mess out of most everyone. Jagger is back and oh there is a surprise with that one (nope not gonna give a spoiler). Riddles are left, who left them and why? I will say this, one heck of a cliffhanger in my opinion.

This series is fabulous! Some serious demon-fairy-witch-vampire-trolly-shifter goodness!!!! I have thoroughly enjoyed the mixture of all these paranormals & their abilities. Not to mention all the excitement & trouble they get in & out of. :) I can only imagine the fun it would be to attend another year at the academy! (I say another, because I feel like I was right there with them through it all while reading Initiation & Integration.) ;) Here's hoping Imogen Rose brings us more of her Cordelia, Faustine, & Jagger greatness very soon, because I'm sure I'll need a Jagger fix! ;*}
