I hooked everything up today and now I have this annoying buzzing when I connect the audio cable to my (old) work computer (ya'know, the one that was directly connected to the speakers before). I've tried using both additional ports and both additional cables but I get the same result ... constantly buzzing speakers. The audio for the two "permanent" ports (#1 and #4) works just fine but I expected to have that experience with all 4 ports. Since my (old) work computer will be going away in a few months, I'll have somewhat of an upgrade from the original 2 computer configuration because the audio on the #1 and #4 ports does work. However, I don't think I got what I paid for and, if you're looking to have nice, clear audio from more than 2 computers, don't count on it. Both my MacBook Pro and Windows PC were moving the desktop and resize windows every time I switched away from them because in both machines the desktop is setup to span 2 monitors. The GCS922U disconnects the monitor when switching, thus causing the computer to automatically move the desktop to the other, still connected monitor. If the resolution of the primary and secondary display aren't exactly the same, the application windows automatically resize and reposition. Arrg! It has only one USB cord to each computer so it merges the keyboard and mouse inputs like a hub before sending to the computer. This may or may not be a good thing for you. I think it's agnostic about what goes into the 2 USB ports and it worked fine with my wireless mouse. I replaced the above unit with the very similar IO Gear GCS932UB ($20 more) because it has the EDID feature. No problems with things moving and resizing anymore. Be aware that this model has the Mouse Emulation feature defaulted to the on position and if you have anything other than an ancient mouse you will likely need to turn the feature off (via keyboard commands) before your mouse will work. My wireless M705 mouse was dead until I turned off the feature. Unlike the GSC922U that led you to this review, the better GCS932UB unit requires the keyboard go into one port and the mouse in another. Using a wireless keyboard/mouse combo with a single USB dongle might be tricky. Read other reviews to see if others can help sort this out for you. Overall I don't recommend the GSC922U unless you have non-laptop (or laptop configured as cloned desktop, same resolution as monitor) single-monitor computers running identical desktop resolutions. Try unplugging and replugging your monitor to each computer with a bunch of windows open and see if anything changes. If anything shifts, the extra $20 for the GCS932UB will be well worth it. Some say it supports 4k at 60hz (UHD), some say it doesn't. No one seems to know if it supports 4k at 60hz SST as opposed to MST or if it supports FreeSync. Not even StarTech's technical support knew the answer. The good news is that this KVM does support 4k at 60hz, both MST and SST, as well as FreeSync. I'm using it with Windows 7 x64 with an R9 390 on one computer and a Radeon 7850 with Kubuntu 14.04.3 on the other. Both computers are running at 4k 60hz through the KVM. The only downside to this KVM is the cables that ship with it. As far as I can tell the bundled mini DisplayPort to mini DisplayPort cables do not support 4k at 60hz. If you're unable to get this KVM to work at 4k 60hz, it's almost certainly the cable's fault. This seems to be a solid, well-made KVM switch. It is fully powered and keeps power to the keyboard and mouse all the time. There are physical buttons on the front of it for easy switching between CPUs. No remembering weird combinations of keystrokes (although apparently you can do it that way, but I never have). I use this to swap back and forth between my home computer and the work computer I bring home when I work from home. It is ideal for that. You plug your keyboard and monitor into designated ports on the front, and then there are VGA and USB jacks for four CPUs on the back. Note: the video switching is just VGA. So I actually don't even use this to switch the video between my home PC and the work one. The VGA cable just plugs straight into my work laptop and I leave my DVI cable connected to the home PC. The VGA one had 2 pre-attached cables, ports 2 and 3, so you were stuck with using those first. This one, with 4 full cables (DVI,USB,Sound) gives you the choice to swap ports at will, which is a lot easier if you feel like changing your mind or desk setup. Cable length is good, but can be bulky if you leave it on the desk. Having a seperate port for using a wireless keyboard/mouse USB receiver is good, leaves another USB port for sharing a printer. Even with wireless USB, response for port switching is good, but at the device side(PC, laptop) there is a 3-5 second lag before the mouse responds, and that gets annoying. The option of being able to switch to each port without swapping full focus is nice and sort of overcomes that delay issue. I can switch over to my other computer and see what status is on the screen and then go back to work on the other without having a mouse delay. The good news is that it works most of the time.

However the keyboard based port switching is temperamental and can occasionally get stuck on a computer during boot. This can lead to problems when switching during Citrix Xenserver boot. Once the switch gets stuck, the only way to reliably clear the problem is to unplug every thing from it, which can be a real hassle on the hardwired ports #1 & #4. The computer connections on those two ports need to get disconnected and that means getting access to the back of those computers. If Iogear had incorporated a manual "Reset" switch on the box, I would have given it 4-stars instead!!!

However I have not noticed the switching problems during Windows or Mac OS X boot. Once systems have completed boot, the keyboard based switching works reliably.

I have used it with Windows, Mac OS X, and Xenserver using Microsoft PC keyboard & mouse.

Warning:
The supplied user manual is incorrect for this model (IoGear KVM model GCS634U). The keyboard switching codes and behavior are not as documented in the hardcopy manual. Google "Iogear KVM model GCS634U manual" to get the PDF web page for the latest product Quick Start Guide and pay careful attention to pages 8 through 16 for the correct key codes and corresponding KVM switch behavior.

Port Switching Notes:
The provided hardcopy manual incorrectly states keyboard sequence "<Scroll-Lock><Scroll-Lock><Enter>" will switch to the "next powered-on computer port". The latest online documentation correctly describes the switching behavior which is that it switches everything to the "next sequential port" (even if there is nothing plugged into the port or the computer is OFF). This means that to round-robin switch back to the original computer port when only two connected ports are used, you will have to enter this key sequence 4 times.

Audio Notes:
The audio from the 4 computers is not mixed into the switch's audio output. Each computer's keyboard, video, mouse, & audio is switched to the output port when the corresponding input port is selected. Also, it is not possible to switch just the KVM independently of the corresponding Audio (an feature that is incorrectly documented as supported in the bad hardcopy user manual).

"Automatic Port Scanning Mode" Notes:
HOW TO STOP THE PORT SCAN MODE IS NOT DOCUMENTED IN THE HARDCOPY MANUAL! You need to use <ESC> or <SPACE> key to stop the "automatic port scan mode" once it is started. While the ports are being scanned, no mouse or keyboard input will be sent to the computers.

It's pretty and it works!

I got this to replace a TrendNet unit that only switched in one direction via keyboard and required manual intervention to get it to switch after you got to the highest active input, but that's not important right now.
I'm using this for some *nix boxes I have to access remotely so it is connected via a Lantronix Spider KVM. All is working well, I can access via a remote virtual console. the unit switches happily number to the connected systems. The fact that it has no manual switching buttons doesn't seem to be an issue; it is switched electronically and if they keyboard input isn't making it switch, I doubt buttons would help, they don't on any other soft-switched KVM I have used. What I really like is that it is an inexpensive soft-switched 4 port KVM with the guest connections all on one side. I find it interesting that they chose to make it Mac Mini-like in design when it's a VGA switcher. Why not 5 stars? I haven't owned it long enough, if it lives a year or a I get more and deploy them successfully, then I'll bump it up to 5.

One major hangup.

I read the comments about not supporting wireless keyboard/mouse and that was okay with me. I'm using a MS 4000 keyboard and a wired Logitech mouse. I'm not using the video connector and see now (from the Mini-Product guide included with the Switch) that I might have gotten by with the IOGear GUS404 USB switch at half the price.

It took a couple of minutes to figure out the instructions and set things up. It took plugging and unplugging a couple of times for the Switch to sort everything out. After that the [ScrLk][ScrLk]#[Enter] and [ScrLk][ScrLk][Enter] sequences worked fine to switch between my two Windows 8.1 and one Windows 7 machines.

The PROs are that it works and looks nice on the desk.
The single CON is that the cables are pretty heavy and all your computers need to be within about 6' of the switch. But this may only be a problem for me because I don't use the video and should have ordered the GUS404 in the first place.

A few months later ........

Every once in a while the switch just hangs and I've got to crawl under my desk to disconnect all the computers it's connected to reset it. By hangs I mean that it refused to accept any more ScrLk-ScrLk-Enter sequences and the keyboard and mouse do not communicate with the indicated computer. I finally figured out what was happening. If I hit ScrLk ScrLk and then nothing (because I get interrupted or I have a brain freeze) the switch hangs. It is absolutely necessary to hit the Enter key within a few seconds of the ScrLk ScrLk sequence. Now that I figured out what was causing the hangups it's less of a problem but it still happens occasionally and it's a royal pain. So I dropped my rating from 4 to 3.

Would be better if the mouse didn't hang.

It's OK, but could be better. It has a mouse glitch, a pause every three or four seconds. I have repeatedly tried to reach IOGear for the warranty to no avail.
