BE PATIENT AND PERSISTANT

I recently purchased Systems Mechanic from IOLO Software Labs.
I was, and still am, amazed at what it can do.

The first time I ran it, it uncovered multiple problems, which
I quickly instructed it to fix. After that, I ran it everyday
for a week, and each time it would uncover more problems.

My computer started to run better after the first time I ran
it, and got better each time it was run. After about two weeks,
things were really working great. My computer has not run this
good since I bought it, about 5 years ago.

I run Systems Mechanic twice a week now, to keep my system
running at top speed.

I've tried many other 'so called' Speed-Up programs, but this
one really works, and you get tech support with it.

It's well worth the money!

Based on the title you might think this is an upgrade from version 7 - but that is not the case. When you install this from the dvd you will find that it is version 7.5.1. So, where does the "08" come from? Must be the year the packaging was changed. Perhaps it is a ploy by IOLO to get you to sign up for a subscription the renews annually. Fortunately you do not need to sign up to install the program. While the program is certainly capable, it is not a new release. If you already have version 7.5, don't bother.

I purchased this because of its claim to provide a bootable DVD that could restore systems that no longer boot. I had a laptop that suffered from corrupted files preventing Windows Vista from starting up. I put in the disc and booted the system, got the initial screens up to the point where it asked me to confirm that I wanted it to analyze and fix the drive. That was it, it was locked up completely at that point.

Support was useless. I contacted them via the web site. Two days later I got an e-mail telling me to run chkdsk on the drive. I responded by asking how I was supposed to run chkdsk on a system that doesn't boot, and what that had to do with their DVD software locking up. Their response was to tell me to find out the make of the drive and download the manufacturer's diagnostic software to run. Again, I asked how one does that on a system that won't boot. I was them told to take it to a service tech to look at.

In the end, the problem was that the boot sector got overwritten. A fairly simple problem which their bootable DVD locked up rather than fix.

TO be fair, I installed the software on another system to check out its system performance recommendations. NEVER accept them all. Many of the changes it recommended would, in fact, have broken applications I had running on my PC. After allowing those I considered safe, system performance was no better.

So you know where I am coming from, I have worked with computers since the Apple II, building them, repairing them, programming them. I was one of the authors of Central Point's original PC Tools system utilities. I also owned a version of this 6 years back. The quality has gone way down, and the support is completely useless.

I do not know that there is anything out there that I would recommend in its place, but I cannot recommend this as anything but a waste of your money.

I have used System Mechanic for several years. but they have now decided that my computer is a way to advertise to me. then place pop ups on the screen in the lower left corner of the screen telling me about things they think are helpful. but It is exactly why I bought system mechanic to stop adware and other junk. so they stop all the others then plague me with all kinds of there own popups.
in my mind they should not add any distractions to my computer and if they feel the need to put these in they should be and option that is off by default.

I use to love it until it destroyed windows installer in laptop running Vista, destroyed bluetooth and poor customer service. I didn't have any problems with my desktop running windows 7, but now since the latest update 8/3/12, my desktop is acting up. I used to love the product, but now I don't think ANYONE should buy or download. I am a paid subscriber who is paid up til 2016, that's how much I liked the product...

Installing System Mechanic Professional destroyed my computer. It corrupted my registry. It deleted all my Windows 7 restore points. I was unable to access any of my files. Even though IOLO customer service acknowledged their software was responsible for rendering my computer useless, they claimed they have a clause in their license agreement that hold them harmless for any damage caused by their software.

Other people say System Mechanic Professional slows your computer down to a standstill, and IOLO customer service is virtually non-existent. When you can reach a customer service rep they are nasty and abusive.

Buy System Mechanic Professional at your own peril, and only if you enjoy playing Russian Roulette.

I got a phone call from a company identifying itself as IOLO whose software I had purchased. They said their SYSTEM MECHANIC had detected a Trojan program on my computer and for $99 to $200 they could fix it for me. I made him give my product serial number before continuing with the call and he did so. I'm retired so I let him continue.

The tech told me his name was Dan Clay and had an Indian Accent so thick I could hardly understand him and I have worked with many people from India over the years. I could also hear people in the background telling other people the exact same story as me. How unlucky can these other people be to have the exact same problem at the same time?

Dan told me they needed to write code to install drivers which is not true. He told me the drivers cost $200 (more than the OS), but since I was a customer they would give it to me free. [Microsoft doesn't sell drivers, they sell the operating system that contains all the drivers. If you need more drivers or an update, just use windows update. Tech's do not write code, otherwise they would be (higher paid) programmers.]
He did the thing where he put his supervisor on the phone and the supervisor sounded exactly like the him. LOL. I almost wet my pants. It was entertaining.

I did a search on 'IOLO SCAM' on Google and got lots of hits with people relating the exact same story since 2007. It's scripted. They offer to include additional software at no cost to you. Funny thing, is I already have that software because it is free, including Microsoft Essentials which is also free. During the call, they said that they did something which is technically impossible - transferring a working session to a 3rd party company. Gee, are they good!
