The automated track-splitting feature, when connecting the iPod directly to the turntable, did not work at all - probably because the software perceived the hum as part of the tracks. It records the whole side of the record as one long track. The iPod software did load easily and is easy to use - I give it that much credit. Used an iPod Touch 4th Gen 8Gb as the recording source.
The box indicates that a USB cable, CD with software, and user guides were to be included but none of those items were in the packaging - only the turntable and the power supply (wall wart). This was a brand-new, unopened package - taped shut once at the factory. So there is something very wrong with quality control at the China facility that manufactures this product.
I will be returning this to the store and seeking an alternative. If anyone has a recommendation, please comment - THANKS!
Obviously, this isn't good for listening, or converting, so I tried it on a different receiver and the same thing. Then, I bought new RCA cables and it did do less often, but bad enough that I finally had to call customer service. Sounds like a RCA issue or moreover a bad chipset inside (?) considering it's more than just a belt driven player like older ones with no digital conversion options. That's where I am now, with a repair ticket or replacement option, which hopefully will be resolved expeditiously. I hope Ion or (inMusic Brands) can pull through and make me a happy customer as the product seems pretty cool and I'm excited to use it. I will follow up with review in due course.
+ Direct recording (sort of) to a compatible iDevice
- Power button in the rear, difficult to get to
- No light to indicate whether device is turned ON or OFF
- No charging of iDevice while docked
- No audio output capability for iDevice while docked
- EZ Vinyl app for iDevice has too many functional limitations and bugs
- Cannot import recordings directly to Music Library on iDevice (must first export to iTunes)
I have used other LP conversion tools before, and this Plug-n-Play unit is by far the simplest. But simplicity in this case does not equate to quality or ease of use. However, I will keep my unit since I can still use it for a quick conversion every now and then, especially where sound quality is not too important. Hopefully something more thoughtful will come along in the future.
The biggest complaint for me is that the Track Splitting feature of the software app doesn't work very well. Better to turn it OFF and press the New Track button manually between songs while recording. Which means you have to spend time sitting by the turntable as you record. (Silver lining: you get to listen to the whole album as you probably did in the old days!) Another flaw is that there is no Pause button while recording. As soon as you finish one side, you have no choice but to stop the recording and enter the track info. Then you have to do it again for the other side. (Whoever designed this app probably never had to listen to a vinyl album before in his or her young life!!!) After all that, you then have to export the songs to iTunes and somehow merge them back into one album, then re-import them back to your iDevice where you recorded the songs in the first place. Very, very poor software design and testing, IMO.Read more ›

Don't buy it. We hooked it up properly to some Bose speakers and the sound was like tin cans on a string. Awful!. Read morePublished 1 month ago by steve
I have always been skeptical about modern turntables. When vinyl was strong years ago, most high end turntables were made and sounded very well. Read morePublished 5 months ago by rexamillion
excellent value. Records directly to I- pod. Does not keep the I-pod charged, so make sure it is fully charged before you start.Published 18 months ago by zim12
