The case has a rectangular shape, with dimensions slightly larger than a standard 4x6 print. There are slight indentations on the sides, which permit you to stick your finger inside and lift out the photos, if you don't want to just tip the case over. The case does hold about 100 photos as stated, although the last 20 or so stack up into the cover section.
Unfortunately while the case provides a fairly good fit, the construction seems to be rather poor in a key area, the hinges. It has two plastic hinges and a latch, each with a joint that is very thin, that may not hold up well under use. One of my hinges broke after opening the lid just a few times, so just exercise a little care.
While this is a decent case for a small quantity of photos, price is an issue. I bought mine at my local CVS drugstore for $1.50, which I thought was kind of expensive until I saw what they were charging at Amazon! I don't think that the case is even worth what I paid, let alone four times as much.
1 to hold all of my old 35mm negatives which I use on occasion to make prints.
1 to hold old school portraits.
2 to hold all photos that didn't make the cut into my photo albums or scrapbooks.
1 (in the larger 5x7 size) to hold various photos and prints that I rotate throughout the year in the picture frames that I have around my home.
I keep all of these little containers in a photo storage box along with other photo or keepsake related items. Iris does make a larger storage box to hold these cases if you accumulate a lot of them, though my $2.00 storage box from the craft store is more attractive and suits my needs just fine.
The cases are very sturdy. There is space around the prints so you can lift them out without having to touch/leave fingerprints on the face of the prints. The closure is firm though I don't open and close on a daily basis - just occasionally - so mine have held up well. I don't know if it would wear or snap if opened and closed on more of a daily basis if that's your intention. If more of an occasional (monthly?) use the wear has been fine for me; it's holding up quite well. They stack well and I love that they're acid free. They are transparent, but I label mine for quicker reference.
I can easily organize my pictures into these separate cases and label them accordingly. They are sturdy plastic so I don't have to worry about something seeping in and ruining these precious memories.
They also stack which is great. No mess! I already bought another set and will probably buy a few more over time. (I have A LOT of pictures.) These store a decent amount of photos in each. About 100 but if I'm being honest, I've overstuffed a few just to see if the plastic was durable and believe it or not, they didn't snap open or break. I obviously don't recommend it but I really like that even when pushed beyond its limits, these held up well!
Definitely a great product for people that need to organize their photos and want to store them neatly away.
